With the weekend looming I proposed a trip to The Pop Up Farm. I hate driving and The Pop Up Farm was too far out of my comfort zone to drive but the hubby was happy to do it, especially as he’s just bought himself a swanky new car. The Pop Up Farm opened last year but this was the first time we had a free weekend and it was open. I’d been keeping an eye on their Instagram page so knew a little about what to expect from their Sunflower Festival.

The Sunflower Festival at The Pop Up Farm started on 17th August. It is free to visit with free parking but you pay for any sunflowers you pick. We parked up and headed straight for the bale maze. The kids loved the chance to climb all over the bales and it gave them the chance to burn off some energy after sitting in the car.

Everything was well sign posted and we choose to follow the Sunflower Trail right through the sunflower fields. There were lots of sunflowers and the kids loved looking at them all – they were all so much better than our poor attempts. It was hard not to take lots of photos, and it seemed like everyone was posing for photos.

There were lots of amazing sunflower sommeliers to help you choose any sunflowers you wanted, and signs dotted around so you could learn more about them.

The sunflowers were £2 each or 7 for £10 so we chose 7 lovely sunflowers. We took these back to the shop where we also paid for some sweetcorn and a pack of sunflower seeds for next year.

It was really hot when we visited so we bought some ice-cream and sat inside the Farmer’s Corner tent to cool down. You could buy sweetcorn (grilled on the front of the giant combine-harvester(!) as well as pizza – both looked delicious.

The Pop Up Farm is free to visit. The car park is free. Make sure you bring money for sunflowers, food and drink.

The Pop Up Farm is based at M1 junction 9 Flamstead, next to the Harvester – just 30 miles from London.

Don’t forget they are hosting a Sweetcorn Celebration which runs from mid-August to September, followed by a Pumpkin Patch in October.
