You all know I love papercutting but don’t get nearly enough time to do it. Obviously the kids are on half term this week but I am too! Since I now work in a school I have been looking forward to some ‘me’ time (laughable I know!) this half term. Today I finally got it.

We had a ridiculously early start to drop my car at the garage at 8, followed by a trip to the dentist at 9. This meant we were back at home and ready to relax mid-morning. We still had a list of jobs to do but I made sure they were all finished so I could have an hour or two to craft this afternoon.

A few weeks ago I treated myself to the 3D Spooky House and the Gingerbread House papercutting kit from Not Just Paper boutique. The owner makes the loveliest paper sculptures and I was really happy when she announced she was making kits so you could make your own.

You can buy either the templates to print out at home or a kit of all the templates printed on coloured card. I opted to buy everything so I could cut and glue. I’d had a few attempts at cutting out the templates but today I managed to cut everything out, find the video tutorial and start putting everything together. I love papercutting but this was my first 3D thing and it was a little tricky. I didn’t have any special paper glue so used a mixture of Bostik Micro Dots, Bostik Glu Dots and Mod Podge.

I really enjoyed having some time to craft, it is so relaxing – even with two children constantly talking to me! The trickiest part was probably the base. I used Mod Podge and a tiny peg to hold it together whilst it dried.

I was getting impatient to put everything together before my crafting time ran out but I just about managed it. I placed the spooky papercut house inside the base, adding the tiny gravestone and cross.

I love the finished spooky house, it makes a lovely Halloween decoration, if I can just keep it away from my children. I expect you’ve noticed the mistakes I made, such as not folding the paper the right way. I think the dotted lines add to the charm and at least I won’t make the same mistake with the next kit!

I bought the 3D Spooky House papercut kit from Not Just Paper boutique Etsy shop for £15. Check out her shop for lots of great paper cut templates.

Oh that’s very clever. We’ve made all sorts of things at Halloween, but never a spooky house.
