Easy recycled Valentine sun catchers for kids to make

My children are both excited about Valentine’s Day later this month. It’s a lovely day to mark and a great reason to craft handmade cards and gifts. My children have both been making little things to give. So far we have made fingerprint heart keepsakes and today I’m going to share our easy Valentine’s Day sun catchers. There has been so much in the news about plastic waste that I’m pleased we were able to raid the recycling box and use plastic milk bottle.

We used:

empty plastic milk bottle with the label removed

Bostik Glu Dots

sequins, stars and jewels

hole punch and string

We used a wooden heart blank, placed it onto the milk bottle and drew around it.

I cut them out using my craft knife and cutting mat but you could use scissors too. We then discarded the rest of the milk bottle.

We punched a hole in the top of each one so we could hang them up when they were decorated.

My children had two hearts each and decorated them using the Bostik Glu Dots and a selection of colourful sequins, stars and jewels. They both did their own thing, one drew around his heart with a permanent marker, whilst the other covered her heart in stickers. I love that they can both make something with the same materials and turns out so unique.
