kid made fingerprint Christmas cards

Kid-made Christmas cards

Posted on October 8, 2012August 17, 2021 by jenny

I mentioned the other day how we were aiming for a handmade Christmas. The first step was to make a start on our kid-made Christmas cards. There’s so much inspiration on Pinterest but I narrowed it down to simple ideas I could do with the toddler. He absolutely loves finger painting at the moment so we got the paints out, covered the table in newspaper and got stuck in!

This was so much fun. I opened four pots of paint and let the toddler loose. He’s pretty good if I give him a clear instruction so he dipped a finger in the paint then on the paper so each finger print would look like a colourful Christmas light. When the paint was dry I joined the lights with a string drawn on in pencil.

This time we got out the brown paint. This one was more of a family affair as myself, the husband, toddler and baby all dipped a finger in the paint for posterity. When the paint had dried I drew on eyes, ears and antlers with a black pen as well as a red nose. Our own little reindeer family.

Candy canes make me think of Christmas and I always make sure to buy a box to decorate the tree. Our candy cane is made from red and white thumb prints. The white didn’t show up very well so next time we try this I will use darker paper.

Our final craft was this cute little Christmas wreath. The toddler was just about running out of patience with me and my instructions so we kept it simple with green finger prints for the wreath. I added a ribbon and some baubles by hand after the paint had dried.

I hope you enjoyed our seasonal crafts! Painting is always popular in our house and relatively cheap too as we always have a stock of paints, paintbrushes and newspaper. I love using Pinterest for inspiration, make sure you follow me for lots more ideas for Christmas crafting!

These are so brilliant. I bought some poster paints this week as the finger paints we have are like gel and don’t give a satisfying result. I can’t wait to try the new paints out with my toddler and some Christmas designs are now top of my list!

I did some finger prints with the kids, adding rabbit ears and whiskers for Easter cards which were really easy. We used stamp pads instead of paint which worked really well and wasn’t too messy 🙂 The Christmas theme is just lovely so will have to revisit the idea. Thank you
