What I’m reading: The Teashop on the Corner

Posted on November 9, 2014July 8, 2016 by jenny

This weekend I’ve enjoyed finishing The Teashop on the Corner by Milly Johnson, the latest book from the Bahlsen Book Club. I received a copy of the book as well as two packs of delicious chocolatey Bahlsen biscuits.

Spring Hill Square is a pretty sanctuary away from the bustle of  every day life. And at its centre is Leni Merryman’s Teashop on the Corner, a place where three people will find a friend to lean on:

The Teashop on the Corner

Carla Pride has just discovered that her late husband Martin was not who she thought he was. But now she must learn to put her marriage behind her and move forward.

Molly Jones’s ex-husband Harvey has reappeared in her life after many years, wanting to put right the wrongs of the past before it is too late.

And Will Linton’s business has gone bust and his wife has left him to pick up the pieces. Now he needs to gather the strength to start again.

Can all three find the comfort they are looking for in The Teashop on the Corner? And as their hearts are slowly mended by Leni, can they return the favour when she needs it most?

I really enjoyed reading this book. The three central characters all have interesting and believable stories and the supporting cast of characters ensure all the characters really come to life. This kind of book is really easy to read and perhaps a little predictable  but that doesn’t impact on the enjoyment factor!

The central theme of second chances is nothing new but I really like the way it unfolded for Carla, Molly, Will but also Shaun McCarthy, Pavitar Singh and Ryan O’Gowan. Of course there is an unexpected twist at the end for Leni Merryman. I have to admit having a tear in my eye for the way the book is written, especially the last few chapters.

A great novel full of Northern charm, cake and the importance of a Kindle – there’s lots to love about The Teashop on the Corner.

Oh I really like the sound of this book, I’m terrible at the moment, I have a huge stack of books to read and just can’t seem to be bothered to pick one up! Must change that x

I have several books on the go at the moment and more waiting for me on my Kindle app, got some time off this week so will be keeping my current book The Cleaner of Chartres by Sally Vickers. I do like the sound of The Teashop on the Corner sounds a light read.
