The Board House Crewkerne

Continuing our attempt to visit as many board game cafes and play new games we recently visited The Board House in Crewkerne. Although we have quite a collection of board games at home, we also enjoy trying new ones. Board game cafes are a great place to try new games out. We booked in advance as we knew half term would be busy.

On our table was handy booklet featuring some suggestions of games for families. We own Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne so thought we would try Santorini.

Santorini is a strategy-based board game where you use different shaped blocks to build a 3-storey structure on the island. It was simple to understand, which we liked, but you can add complexity by playing with the God cards.

It was fun to build a 3D island and made us want to visit Santorini one day! If we had the room we would probably buy this so could play again at home.

After this we let the kids choose a game to play. There were lots of games on both floors to chose from. We also loved that each game had been categorised with a sticker, so you could easily find out what kind of game it was, how many people could play it, and how long it took to play.

The 12 year old chose The Fuzzies. Which was basically a plastic cup which you use to mould a tower of pom poms. Then you play jenga with the pom poms until everything collapses. Fun and a bit silly.

The 14 year old chose Karen because everyone knows a Karen character. The rules were a little complicated for us in our timed slot as we felt we were running out of time. Instead we picked What Came First? and worked our way through the cards, deciding what came first. This was lots of fun and we learned quite a lot arguing over what came first, turning the card over to find out more!

Our 2 hours flew by and we were pretty pleased to have tried 4 new games. Whilst we played we enjoyed yummy milkshakes and shared some cake too!
