It’s nearly time to find our two elves and bring them out of their hiding place (at the bottom of my wardrobe). I love December 1st even though it means a pretty manic 24 days of elf antics. I can’t resist an elf craft and it’s definitely time to share our cute elf cupcake liner craft. Both my children have been obsessed with the items they could purchase as part of the Poppy Appeal at their schools this week. Both were allowed to take in money to buy poppy themed rubbers, rulers, pencils and poppies to mark Remembrance Day and the Centenary of the end of the First World War. I am more than happy to donate money to the Poppy Appeal but I have been a little miffed that my children appeared more excited about buying a new rubber than the idea of Remembrance Day. Thankfully they are both part of the Scouting movement so…

We’ve been to some really fun craft workshops for kids at our local Hobbycraft. They are always affordable and the staff have been lovely and helpful. This weekend we popped along to our local store to make Duck Tape Halloween squishies. I could tell from the picture that they would be fun so booked places and went along. Making Halloween squishies with Duck Tape We’ve made some squishies before. They are so simple to make and don’t require many materials. For our Duck Tape squishies we needed Duck Tape, Supersoft Toy Filling, Clear cellophane bags and a black permanent pen.…

I love this time of year, especially when I have the time off work to enjoy it! We are really enjoying some time together at home to relax and craft. A few weeks ago we watched the trailer for the upcoming Grinch film. Based on the 1957 Dr. Seuss story How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, it’s something we can’t wait to watch as the book has been a staple of our festive Book Advent for the last few years. In case you’re not familiar with it: The Grinch hatches a scheme, with his trusted canine Max, to ruin Christmas when the residents of Whoville…

This is a guest post from our friends at Mrs Mactivity, who make creative learning resources to download and print, for parents and teachers. Download the Halloween Friendship Bracelet template here. Halloween is such a fun seasonal event! There’s pumpkin soup to make, costumes to prepare, trick or treating, parties, fun and excited children! It’s a sort of second place Christmas – after your own birthday of course. It’s also a really good opportunity to involve children in crafting and creative activities, to help them develop fine motor skills and above all, to have fun and spend quality time together…

I love an easy after school craft activity to help my kids wind down. My 8 year old loves robots. He’s been drawing quite a few of them recently so we tried making them into 3D robots using some of our craft supplies. They turned out really well so I thought I’d share them. Mini Robot treasure box supplies: Craft matchboxes Silver paper Bostik Glu Dots Googly eyes Black straws How to craft Mini Robot treasure boxes My son loves a little box to keep his treasures in so I found some empty craft matchboxes to use as the base of…

The Summer holidays are passing so very quickly and I can’t help but begin to think of the start of the new term. We still have lots to look forward to but I know I have to get school uniform up together (I’ve already done a lot of this thanks to M&S), label everything and pick up new stationery for my 8 year old. My son takes a reading book to school and we had fun crafting him some new Duck Tape bookmarks to use. They were so simple that I thought I would share them as Duck Tape crafts…

With two inquisitive children I am constantly on my toes keeping them engaged and active, especially during the summer holidays. I’ve shared a few resources to keep the dreaded brain drain away and wanted to tell you about The Holiday Makers, a website with fun, free, family friendly activities to keep the kids aged 7-16 busy and minds sharp over the summer holidays. Engineer a great Summer with the Year of Engineering The Holiday Makers website is part of the Year of Engineering, a year-long initiative celebrating the wonderful world of engineering and encouraging young people to get involved.
