My daughter has a great collection of Sylvanian Families buildings. She can create her own little rural Sylvania with her tree house, log cabin and other buildings.
I recently bought her the Baby Sleigh Ride Set, she just *loves* the babies. It’s a sweet little Christmas set but got me thinking. The only thing missing was our Sylvanian set up was a gingerbread house! So I made one.

I bought a pretty shabby village Post Office Shop which came with a counter and accessories. The cardboard detail was ripped and bent which I thought made it the perfect candidate for recycling.
I also bought a cardboard roof, canopy and sign set from eBay in a fun print, although you could easily make your own. These were the perfect size for updating a Sylvanian Families building, and even had double sided tape on the back, totally ready to be used.
First I removed the old pieces of cardboard from the building. They were stuck on with double sided tape, so pretty easy to remove.
Then I added the gingerbread house pieces which already had double-sided tape on them. They fitted exactly in place.
The Post Office didn’t come with a shop sign so I took the sign from Madeleine’s Boutique. I recently bought a lot of vintage Sylvanian bits and pieces for upcycling. This was a bright pink shop with cardboard decoration. I removed the old sign and added my new one.
I love our finished Sylvanian Families gingerbread house. It’s perfect for Christmas (and all year round!). We’ve added some of the equipment from the Brick Oven Bakery and set up our own little shop!

Oh I adore this – it’s just too cute! Also love the fact that you can buy stuff for making your own Sylvanian Family houses on Ebay – that’s a whole industry I never would have guessed of.
How lovely to make your own shop and so nice to make it seasonal too. I expect there will be lots of fun to be had with that.
