Speak Out Kids vs Parents {game review}

Sunday afternoons are perfect for playing family games. We were recently sent the popular Speak Out Kids vs Parents from Hasbro to try out at home and we can’t wait to tell you what we thought!

Speak Out Kids vs Parents

Speak Out Kids vs Parents includes 6 plastic mouthpieces for kids, 4 plastic mouthpieces for adults, 200 double-sided cards (100 for kids and 100 for parents), a sand timer, and instructions.

I’ve heard a lot about this game and was excited to try it out. The idea of the game is quite simple with this ridiculous mouthpiece challenge game! Players try to say different phrases while wearing a mouthpiece that won’t let them shut their mouth.

There are two decks of cards. Parents pick from the Parents deck of cards, filled with phrases parents might say to kids such as “This playroom is a positive pigsty!”. And the kids get to choose from the Kids deck filled with things kids might say such as “What a bummer, brother.”

You need to try and read the phrase as best as you can to your team mates, but it’s not so easy to do as the timer counts down and the mouthpiece stops you from speaking correctly. Your teammate has to try and figure out what you are saying. If they guess correctly then you earn the card. The team with the most cards at the end of the game wins.

It sounds so simple but the mouthpieces make it really hard. I can see why the game is for ages 8 and over. The mouthpieces are pretty tricky to fit in and make it almost impossible to speak! We’ve had a few fun games but my 5 year old is too young to play which makes it pretty tricky to play. This would be so much fun with all the family at Christmas and definitely something to keep for when the children get a little older. I’m afraid I’m not sharing any photos of us with the mouthpieces in as they really do make you look ridiculous!

Do you play games on Boxing Day? It’s a really fun family tradition of ours and I think a few glasses of wine would make this even more fun!

Speak Out Kids vs Parents can be played by 4-10 players and is recommended for ages 8 and up. It retails at around £19.99 which is great value for a family game that will give you hours of entertainment.

    Not one I think we’ll be trying but I can see that it could be hilarious. Our post Christmas day meals tend to involve more snoozing and the Queen.
