Autumn has definitely arrived, despite that mini heatwave we enjoyed earlier this week. The days are getting shorter and we have already enjoyed homemade blackberry and apple pie! I love Autumn and I’ve been enjoying sitting with my children round the table after a day at school. We love to craft as we chat about our day and had so much with this DIY paper pumpkin garland. It makes a great decoration for Autumn and you can keep it up right up until Halloween! List of craft supplies: Coloured papers Twine, yarn or thick string Craft glue Pencil Scissors Pumpkin…

Living in the ‘burbs means we get the best of both worlds. Easy access into London on the tube, and easy access to the surrounding countryside. For the last few years we’ve enjoyed trips out of London to explore lavender fields, sunflower farms and pumpkin patches. All summer we’ve been looking forward to our annual trip to the prettiest sunflower field near London, just 30 minutes from where we live. The prettiest sunflower field near London We’ve visited the Pop Up Farm before and have always enjoyed our visits. Only 15 miles from London, they run an experiential PYO farm…

My children have quickly amassed the biggest collections of Pop Its. Have you heard of them? They are silicone fidget toys which come in all shapes and sizes. They are filled with bubbles which can be popped by pushing them inward. They are great for kids who love to fidget but you can also play all sorts of games by taking turns to pop the bubbles. Pop Its have been a huge hit with my 9 year old and she has quite a collection from small pocket sized ones to larger ones shaped like Pokemon and Poke balls. They are…

I was really keen to re-visit the wild flower meadows we discovered in Ickenham last year. I had a few comments about it on my Instagram and wanted to pop over to see if the same fields had been left as wild flower meadows. We’re lucky to have lots of open green spaces in Hillingdon and we all love to see the wild flower verges which have been sown. This year there were red and pink poppies which are now over, but the verges are still full of colourful wild flowers and cow parsley. Wild flower meadow Ickenham Our little…

Our quick and easy Valentine STEM activity is great for kids who love to try science at home. February has been a creative month for us with the kids learning from home and we’ve set up a lot of STEM experiments at home for fun. This month we’ve experimented with dissolving Love Hearts and made tangram hearts. We love science at home and growing your own crystals is a fun way to explore STEM subjects. Starting the week by writing the Monday Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I always love to write. Monday Happy List {Week 330} Thankfully my son went back to school last week as we are both critical workers. They only had room for my son which was really disappointing for my daughter. We are juggling her home learning around our work which is difficult…

Our home learning has been a lot of fun recently. My 9 year old loves science so we’ve been trying all those home science experiments we’ve wanted to try but never had the time. After the success of our winter Candy Cane experiment my daughter suggested we try it again with Love Hearts. We love those cute little Love Hearts, especially the emoji ones! I thought they would be easy to find but they weren’t – so I ended up buying a huge box of them! Love Hearts have been around for years and I’m sure everyone remembers looking for…

I am so ready for something to celebrate and bring some colour into our lives again! I always find January a difficult month so have been eagerly looking for signs of Spring. This week we’ve spotted catkins in the trees, snowdrops on the ground and the bunches of daffodils I bought have been blooming with colour. Next month we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on the 14th February and I couldn’t resist a few crafts with my children. My son adores the art of origami and had so much fun making a bunch of Valentine paper heart origami bookmarks. These…

We were looking for a fun science experiment to do at home over the Christmas holidays and found a simple STEM activity which kept my children busy. They love simple science experiments they can do at home and had so much fun trying to grow their own Christmas trees.
