A few weeks ago we spent a few days exploring Gosport, on the south coast of Hampshire. I wanted to re-visit Porchester Castle and take the kids there so they could experience the amazing medieval fortress overlooking Portsmouth Harbour. Luckily we picked a sunny day which was just perfect for exploring Porchester Castle with kids. Exploring Porchester Castle with kids This site overlooking Portsmouth harbour has been a Roman fortress, a Norman stronghold and a prisoner of war camp during the Napoleonic Wars. There’s a small car park opposite the castle so we parked up and first walked around the…

Did you celebrate World Book Day today? My daughter wore her pyjamas to school and took her favourite book in, and they were able to spend time reading and talking about books. That sounds like bliss to me! I’m delighted to have teamed up with Little Tiger who publish the best children’s books. They recently published The Time Tider by Sinéad O’Hart, read on for our review and your chance to win a copy. The Time Tider by Sinéad O’Hart {book review} Mara and her dad have lived in their van for as long as she can remember. Whatever her father…

February is such a short month and I think that’s reflected in my crafting time this month. Plus I had half term and Covid which meant I didn’t spend as much time on my crafting hobbies as I would have liked. However I still wanted to blog about my crafting adventures this month. February crafting At the beginning of the month I made a sleep mask out of some gorgeous Liberty fabrics. I love crafting with Liberty fabrics and surrounding myself with pretty, and useful, items. Choosing what Liberty fabrics to use made me think of the Liberty tumbler quilt…

We love making suncatchers and with the King’s Coronation taking place later this year, we thought it would be fun to make a King Charles suncatcher. We used the King Charles III colouring sheet we made, which is based on his portrait on the new 50p coin. My daughter loves collecting special 50p coins, but this isn’t one we have managed to find – yet! Portsmouth Dockyard or Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is made up of a number of different attractions, including HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose Museum. We thought it sounded like a great place to explore with the kids and spent a few days exploring Portsmouth Dockyard with kids. Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is an area of HM Naval Base Portsmouth which is open to the public. It contains several historic buildings and ships. We found the ticket options really complicated but the kids used their Blue Peter badges for free entry whilst we purchased annual passes. These tickets included all the…

I discovered the author Kate Morton a few years ago when I read The Clockmakers Daughter and I’ve never looked back. She is one of my favourite authors and I always look forward to her latest book. Thanks to NetGalley I was able to read an advanced copy of her new book, Homecoming. I finished it in a few days! Homecoming by Kate Morton {book review} Adelaide Hills, Christmas Eve, 1959. At the end of a scorching hot day, beside a creek in the grounds of a grand and mysterious mansion, a local delivery man makes a terrible discovery. A…
