When do NCT friends become friends?

I really struggle to make friends and I’m finding being on maternity leave harder than I expected. Much as I love Edward I think motherhood can be quite lonely. All people want to talk about are babies! Our babies are the only things in common amongst the new mums’ groups I’ve joined but I find it difficult to get beyond the baby talk. Part of the problem is I do little else but look after Edward. I’ve started baking, cooking and sewing more in the evenings but I’m not sure these are of any interest to anybody but myself. 🙁…

    Nursery knits

This beautiful facecloth was made from a pattern in Natural Nursery Knits. I bought this book from my favourite shop in Ryde when Edward was a few weeks old. It is a lovely book, full of unusual patterns and gorgeously illustrated. Now, I can’t knit so you may wonder why I bought a book of knitting patterns! My mum is an amazing knitter and made the washcloth in a couple of evenings. You can see it features Edward’s initial. Edward also has a gorgeous jumper knitted in navy and my mum is currently working on a mobile of knitted birds…

Reversible hoodie pattern from Kitschy Coo

A couple of weeks ago Kitschy Coo put a call out to test her new reversible hoodie pattern. I leapt at the chance. I’m a complete novice crafter but love handmade so I had to give it a go. I chose a fleecy orange for the lining and green camouflage for the shell. The pattern was well laid out with easy to follow steps. First I cut the pattern in both fabrics. I put the shell and lining together, with ribbing for the cuffs and waistband. The hoodie took me an evening to cut out and an afternoon to piece…

    Open House London

This weekend in London hundreds of properties open their doors to the public. According to their website ‘It is a truly city-wide celebration of the buildings, places and neighbourhoods where we live, work and play, and is your opportunity to get out and get under the skin of London’s amazing architecture.’ I’ve participated in Open House as long as I’ve lived in London and visited the Foreign Office, a Secret Bunker in Neasden, the London Eye, flats in the Barbican, Grimm’s Dyke, the Thames Tunnel, St Stephen’s Hall, the old Kingsway Tunnel, Trellick Tower and many more amazing buildings. I…

    The Gallery: a celebration

The theme for The Gallery this week is a celebration. I see a few people have chosen a photo of their wedding day but I’m not ashamed to admit that my wedding day wasn’t the best day of my life! We both dislike being the centre of attention and found the planning stressful and the day itself a bit overwhelming. Our honeymoon was a different matter. The picture I’ve chosen sums up our 2 week jaunt around Scandinavia. No, it didn’t rain all the time (!) but we had a laugh exploring new places, travelling by plane, boat, train through…

    Secret Post Swap

I had seen lots of mentions of Heather’s Secret Post Swap in the blog world and as I love swapping  I decided to join in the fun. When partners were assigned I had a couple of weeks to cyber stalk my partner and find out what she likes. Cyber stalking felt very wrong but through reading her blog and tweets I managed to find out enough to buy some treats for her and her family. I spent a morning wrapping it up and took Edward for a walk to the post office to send the parcel on its way. I…

    Recent wins

One thing I love about mummy blogs is the opportunity to learn about new products and win them! My maternity pay will soon be coming to an end and we don’t have the money to spend like we used to. I’ve been really lucky recently and won a boppy feeding pillow from And Then There Was Me. I use it to prop Edward up on as he hasn’t quite mastered sitting up on his own. Here he is relaxing, watching CBeebies the other morning. I’ve also won Vintage at Goodwood tickets from the Clothing at Tesco blog, a retro 1960s…

    Nutella cupcakes

A couple of weeks ago I kept coming across lots of mentions of Nutella. It seems some lucky bloggers were invited to attend an event where the nutritional benefits of Nutella were extolled. We always have a jar of Nutella in the cupboard as I am quite partial to Nutella on my toast for breakfast. Anyway, tonight I whipped up some Nutella cupcakes in honour of National Cupcake Week. I just followed a recipe for vanilla cupcakes with a generous helping of Nutella mixed in. They are delicious!

    Baby bouncer

A couple of weeks ago we bought Edward a Lindam bouncer. It was recommended by all our friends and seemed simple enough to use. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1gJF_QwpxI&fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0] He loves it and spends some time in it each day.
