I can’t believe it’s time to start getting ready for December 1st and our annual festive Book Advent. Do you organise a Book Advent? It’s a lovely way to bring out some of those classic Christmas books, as well as more modern classics, and cuddle up with a good book. We love to read and this time of year is even more perfect for picking up a longer book and sharing it with your child.
My children are 5 and 7 but are happy to share their Book Advent books (thankfully!). The first thing I did was to get last years’ books out of the loft and weed out any which the children had grown out of, these went to the charity shop for someone else to enjoy. I haven’t been able to find The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter or The Christmas Bear by Ian Whybrow and Axel Scheffler. My 5 year old loves these two and sneaked them away to her room to keep them (and they’ve not been seen since!).
I’m excited to add 4 new books to our book collection this year. They are Hortense and the Shadow by Natalia and Lauren O’Hara, The Marvellous Moon Map by Teresa Heapy and David Litchfield, Getting Ready for Christmas (a sticker storybook) by Tara Lilly and Father Christmas’s Fake Beard by Terry Pratchett. See my recent book gift guide post for more on these titles.
This didn’t take too long to sort and this winter we will be reading the following:
The Gruffalo’s Child by Julia Donaldson
Winnie and Wilbur Meet Santa by Valerie Thomas
The Night before Christmas by Clement C. Moore
The Polar Express by Chris van Allsburg
Hortense and the Shadow by Natalia and Lauren O’Hara
The Marvellous Moon Map by Teresa Heapy and David Litchfield
Getting Ready for Christmas (a sticker storybook) by Tara Lilly
Father Christmas’s Fake Beard by Terry Pratchett
Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs
Father Christmas needs a wee by Nicholas Allan
Bless You, Santa by Julie Sykes
Aliens Love Panta Claus by Claire Freeman and Ben Cort
Stick Man by Julia Donaldon and Axel Scheffler
The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton
The Gingerbread Man
Walking in a Winter Wonderland
The Snowman by Raymond Briggs

Mrs Christmas by Penny Ives
Miffy in the snow by Dick Bruna
Elmer in the Snow
Santa Claus has a busy night
Mr Christmas by Roger Hargreaves

Now I just need to wrap them all up and add them to our Advent pile for the children to open on the 1st of December. November has whizzed by!
