Gift guide for 7 year old gamers

Gift guide for gamers

My 7 year old is really easy to buy for at Christmas. He loves YouTube and playing computer games, especially Minecraft and is a bit of a Star Wars geek too. He’s pretty much written his Christmas list, although when the new Star Wars film comes out I think it might change, and I thought I’d share some ideas in case you have a 7 year old and need some inspiration.

We’re lucky to have both a PS4 and Nintendo Switch thanks to my husband who loves computer games too. I would totally recommend either, especially the Switch which we take on long car journeys. My son has a few games so hasn’t asked for any for Christmas. We recently picked up a second hand copy of Minecraft Story Mode for him to try out which I think he will love.

He loves Minecraft so it’s not surprising he has asked for lots of Minecraft toys and books. These include  Minecraft Guide to Exploration, Minecraft Guide to Creative, Minecraft Guide to The Nether and The End and Minecraft Guide to Redstone. These have all been updated and although he has the originals he asked for these too.

Minecraft Periodic Table of Elements. Periodic table includes 27 authentic 1-inch element blocks so you can build the world of Minecraft.

Minecraft Hardcore Survival Pack. This set includes Steve and Alex both in Enchanted Diamond Armour, Diamond Sword, Bow and Arrow, Shield, Elytra Wings, Gold Apple, Ender Pearl, Bucket of Lava, Potion of Fire Resistance, Carrot and Steak. He has quite a few of these sets and this is top of his list.

Minecraft 12″ Plush Steve. My son also has a collection of plush Minecraft toys and keeps picking this up whenever we see it!

A few years ago he received a few Lego Minecraft sets which he loves. He recently asked for both the Lego Minecraft The Nether Railway Building Set (21130) and the Lego Minecraft The Ice Spikes (21131). They are both fun sets and would go well with his other sets.

A few weeks ago we reviewed some really cool toys. is a game both my children play on my iPhone when they get the chance. The range of toys includes blind bags containing different colours of Slithers. These would make a great stocking filler.

Another thing which would be a great stocking filler are Zomlings! There are pocket money friendly and easy to pick up at the supermarket. My children have both been collecting Series 6 figures.

My 7 year old loves to play games offline as well as online. Friday night is our Games Night and Monopoly Gamer has been a huge hit with everyone. Monopoly Gamer is the latest instalment with a Nintendo twist, as it joins forces with beloved Nintendo video game characters. Instead of the usual Monopoly tokens, the game features Super Mario characters, each with their own special powers to use within gameplay. It’s different to traditional Monopoly but lots of fun.

We had some friends over at the weekend and they spent hours playing with nerf blasters. The Nerf Modulus Regulator was very popular. It has the latest SwitchFire Technology and three firing modes including 1 dart per trigger pull, burst-fire to blast several darts per trigger pull and continuous-fire!

Simon Optix wearable headset is another fun game for Games Night. The Simon Optix game takes the Simon game to exciting heights. Simply put on the headset and get ready to watch, remember, repeat!

This year we have bought both the children an echo dot for their bedrooms. We have one in the living room which the children love. It will be great for them to be able to play their own music and ask questions (as long as they don’t get help with their homework!).

We’re still thinking about buying the Lego Boost for our son this year. He’s starting to learn about Scratch at school so this looks like a great toy. It comes with 5 different buildable models which you control via an iPad app. I love educational toys and think this would be great for his inquisitive little mind.

I’ve almost finished my Christmas shopping so I’m hoping my son doesn’t ask for anything else to be added to his Christmas list!

Oooh my son will be seven this Christmas, it’s all Star Wars and Lego round here too! I hadn’t heard of Lego Boost so I’ll have to go and take a look at that one.
