Cricut made countdown {wooden block calendar}

Cricut made countdown {wooden block calendar}

Posted on February 25, 2020November 14, 2021 by jenny

I love crafting for Christmas and had so much fun planning and making throughout October, November and December. I’ve shared a lot of my favourite Cricut projects with you, including the personalised wooden advent calendars we made. Today I wanted to tell you about the wooden block countdown calendar I also made. Although I made it for the children to countdown to Christmas Day, we’re now using it as a photo prop with our little Bichon Frise pup!

Easy Cricut made countdown from wooden blocks

I’m calling this make a wooden block countdown calendar for want of a better name. It’s quite a simple wooden block calendar, with vinyl letters and numbers cut on my Cricut Maker.

To make a wooden block countdown we used:

  • Planed pine wood
  • Wood stain and varnish
  • Cricut everyday vinyl
  • Cricut Maker and accessories

We bought a length of planed wood from B&Q and cut it into the lengths we wanted at home. We decided on 4 small blocks for the numbers, with two larger pieces for the days until and birthday/Christmas.

Whilst I was at B&Q I picked up a small pot of wood stain which I wanted to use to give the wood a darker look. I gave even wooden block a couple of coats and it dried quite quickly.

I set the wooden blocks to one side whilst I planned what font I was going to use for the words. I love the font adeline so chose the words, counted the numbers and cut everything out from a white vinyl. Then it was time for the fun part!

The vinyl was easy to apply and the transfer tape meant I could line up the letters and numbers. It didn’t take long to apply my cut vinyl to the wooden blocks. First I did the larger blocks…

Then the number blocks.

I loved seeing my wooden countdown blocks come to life.

I added a small vinyl of a cake to display when being used as a birthday countdown, and a tree for the Christmas countdown. It’s so easy for the children to use, they just need to choose the correct number blocks to display. My daughter was able to use it to countdown to her birthday.

Then we used it to countdown to Christmas. It looks pretty stylish on our sideboard.

This is one of my favourite Cricut made projects and something we use on a daily basis! It’s a fun way for kids to countdown to a big occasion such as Christmas or a birthday and easy enough to adapt for other uses, such as a special holiday. We even added an extra block with the word weeks so we could use it as a fun photo prop to photograph our little pup!

    What a great idea. The wooden blocks look like they are professionally made. Well done for creating something so lovely.
