I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s usually a post I love to write but obviously life has changed considerably for us and everyone else in the UK over the last few weeks. Life is strange at the moment for everyone but I still want to try and record some of our happier moments.
Monday Happy List {Week 291}
Every week is beginning to blur into the next and it’s difficult to remember what we did when. As well as trying to get through the work from school we did plenty of other activities from daily walks to the weekly Clap for Carers. Last week we also collected flowers to press, made slime, dyed flower petals and did the skittles experiment – my daughter just loves doing science experiments.
We were all excited about VE Day, especially when we received an invitation to our very own socially distanced street party. We made decorations all week, including upcycling a wooden pallet to make a huge union flag. VE Day anniversary was really hot so we didn’t stay out too long but it was lovely to see all our neighbours with their afternoon teas chatting to each other. We made a delicious Victoria sponge and ate ice creams in the sunshine.
Both the children decided to use some Christmas money to buy Lego sets they really wanted. My 10 year old has been playing with his Lego Boost recently so bought the Star Wars Droid commander kit. My 8 year old loves Minions (we were really excited for Minions: The Ride of Gru) and bought the brick built minions and their lair. They both happily spent the weekend Lego building.
We’ve seen lots of fairy gardens during our walks. Ruislip has had some wonderful fairy villages and we have loved seeing little fairy houses pop up over the last few weeks. If you’re reading this and you’re local there is a gorgeous fairy garden on Marlborough Avenue, one by the entrance to Ruislip Woods by the roundabout at Broadwood Avenue, and some by Wallington Close, Ruislip. We decided to build our own fairy garden and the children loved sourcing supplies and turning an old planter into a fairy garden.
We’re lucky to have gone out for a walk every day. It’s essential to keep us all sane but we’re all blessed with the most amazing open spaces on our doorstep. We have fields and farmland, the woods, the lido and footpaths cross crossing the countryside. We’re able to choose different longer walks each weekend and have kept busy identifying trees, looking for geocaching and collecting flowers to press. Last week we walked through Mad Bess Woods, Pynchester Moat and Eastcote Gardens – we did a lot of walking!
Have a great week everyone.

May 12, 2020 at 3:57 pmGetting out for a walk is such a nice way to spend some time and I’ve found my children are desperate to get out! We have been searching for painted pebbles around our local area too 🙂

May 12, 2020 at 11:34 pmSome of the streets around here did a socially distinct VE day party – we put up some bunting, but live on a main road so nothing too much went on did spot a few people out at the end of their drives having a drink though.

May 13, 2020 at 8:43 pmHow wonderful that you are all going for walks and picking flowers along the way. I have not done flower press with my kids so would love to do that with them as it is a great idea to keep them busy as they learn about nature and science
