Mindful sewing and the Spring Craftpod

Mindful sewing and the Spring Craftpod

Posted on June 13, 2018 by jenny

I am so terrible at making time for my hobbies. Sewing and paper cutting are two of my favourite things to do, yet I rarely make time for them. I subscribe to the Craftpod subscription box and the Spring box arrived months ago. It included two hand stitching projects which were lovely but it’s taken me weeks to get round to actually making them.

We did a lot of travelling over half term so I made sure to pack my Craftpod box. Everything fits nicely in a slim box which makes it perfect for carrying around in a handbag.

Botanical Stitch Practice

The first project I started on was the Botanical Stitch Practice. I enjoyed trying out the different stitches which included running stitch, back stitch, split stitch as well as new-to-me stitches like chain stitch and satin stitch.

We had an epic journey from London to Exeter and this was the perfect hand stitching project for the journey. I made sure I traced the pattern onto the calico before we left home, popped it into an embroidery hoop and started stitching.

Linen Project Bag

The second embroidery project was the Linen Project Bag in a gorgeous mustard yellow. I chose which Spring motif I wanted to stitch, folded the bag into a rough shape, and traced the pattern. I chose a simple green leaf pattern and stitched it onto the linen. Then I followed the instructions to make the bag up. I did this by hand but I didn’t follow the instructions properly! I got really confused about how to make the diagonal fold for the ‘tube’ of the ribbon and gave up. I know it’s not good to give up but I tend to give up easily when things annoy me. I may have another go at some point as I love the colour of the fabric.

There were a few extras in the subscription box, including a ‘Sprigs and Buds’ notebook, postcard and A5 poster designed by Hannah Bailey, and a Ginger Kick teabag. Perhaps if I drink the tea it will help me finish the linen bag!

Sign ups are now open for the Summer Craftpod. I’ve ordered mine and can’t wait for it to arrive!

Other Craftpod boxes – Spring Craftpod 2017, Summer Craftpod 2017, Autumn Craftpod 2017, Winter Craftpod 2017.

What a lovely sewing kit . I like the idea that it’s compact enough for easy travelling. Your design is really pretty. I hope you get a chance to complete the beautiful project so you can use the bag.
