Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone

Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone

Last night we were invited to the Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone, the UK’s only Christmas lights drive. We are huge fans of Formula 1 so we were really excited to go to an event at Silverstone, the home of British Motor Racing.

Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone

The Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone is the UK’s only Christmas lights drive. But that’s not all, it really is hours of entertainment with an ice skating track, axe throwing, curling as well as your Lap of Lights around the track at Silverstone. It was amazingly well organised and we loved our visit.

It was so exciting to drive up to Silverstone. It was just over an hour from where we live in London and we arrived just as it was getting dark. The place was flooded with lights, everything was lit up from the track, to the buildings, and even the trees outside! We walked over the racing track, past the pit lane and the ice skating before heading to The Lodge which gives a great view over the whole course and the home Straight.

The Lodge

The Lodge is a great place if you want to relax before and after your experience. There is a huge open space where you can sit and enjoy a range of food and drink. There’s also a shop where you can buy branded Silverstone items from clothing to Christmas baubles. We decided to stop for some food and were entertained by live music and Silverstone fm.

The food was really delicious, we opted for the Silverstone Festive Dog, a jumbo pig-in-a-blanket, with classic sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce, friend shredded sprouts in a hotdog roll with chips. There were also yummy Lap of Lights Hot Chocolate topped with marshmallows!

There were plenty to do at The Lodge and we almost didn’t want to leave. You could book in for axe throwing (over 12’s only) and we also had a go at curling.

Downstairs was a kids cinema area which was a lovely place to chill out with smaller children. There was a fantastic viewing area over the track and a great spot to watch the Lap of Lights experience.

Ice Trak

Beneath The Lodge was ice skating called Ice Trak – a real ice skating rink on the Formula 1 pit lane! You cab glide through Santa’s garages and find out what he really drives. There’s even a viewing area, complete with bar and pizza van. Sadly we didn’t manage to squeeze in ice skating as we spent longer at The Lodge than we thought. We are already planning to visit again so we can do all the activities we want to.

Lap of Lights

We had a timed slot for our Lap of Lights experience, the UK’s only light and laser drive. We went and picked up our car and drove to the start of the track. It was very well organised with lots of marshals showing us where to drive. Lots of people had decorated their cars and this is something we will do next time.

Lap of Lights

The track was decorated with lights and lasers but also had themed areas. The kids loved looking out for the different areas which ranged from the snowy Arctic and Paris to the Pyramids. There were plenty of lit up cars, classic camper vans to racing cars, as well as Christmas trees made from scaffolding poles and volcanoes of lights.

We followed a pace car and the maximum speed was 5 mph which meant that everyone got to see all the lights, even the driver! The kids enjoyed spotting Father Christmas around the track and before we knew it, we had driven all around the track. We had so much fun and made sure we were listening to Silverstone FM as we drove round as they were playing plenty of Christmas requests.

Lap of Lights experience

The Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone takes place between 26th November to the 3rd January 2022. You can book tickets on the Silverstone website. It’s a great trip for fans of F1, British Motor Racing and Christmas!
