Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family.
Five Happy Things {Week 522}
We made it to half term! The last few weeks have been exceptionally busy at the kids have navigated a new school year (and GCSE’s for Big Brother!). As well as school they have lots of extra curricular activities so it feels like it has been non stop. Thankfully they have a two week half and lots of adventures planned.
Last week my son was awarded his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award in a school assembly. He enjoyed the experience and has already signed up for his Silver award.
I finished my embroidered pumpkin. It was one of those projects which got put aside, but was actually fun to stitch and complete. I had printed the design on solvy fabric soluble stabiliser which made it easy to stitch, but needed dissolving in warm water when I had finished. I turned out well and is a good addition to our autumnal decorations.
My son was also awarded his Chief Scout Gold award last week. It was his final session with Scouts which was bittersweet as he has had an amazing time over the last few years. He is off hill walking in Snowdonia over half term and then that is his Scouting journey over, unless he decides to join Explorers.
The kids both carved pumpkins at Scouts and Little Sis won a prize for her wolf carving! She was pretty proud of her design and it looks great with a candle lit inside it. The pumpkins are outside in the cold, so hopefully they will last until Halloween.
What has made you happy recently?

Also, your embroidered pumpkin sounds like a lovely project! I can imagine it adds a nice personal touch to your autumn décor. October 26, 2024 at 8:04 amOur son is doing the Duke award, but the school has not sent home any sort of information and I really don’t know what it is. I really hope to understand more this year – congrats to your son.
