It feels like it’s been a while since I shared one of my sewing projects. Over the weekend I finished a gorgeous embroidered moth banner which is just perfect now that Autumn has set in.
Embroidered felt Desert Moth banner
I bought the pattern from an Etsy shop (Sewn By Sandeep) and the felt banner features a gorgeous Desert Moth. First I needed to gather my supplies – DMC embroidery threads, a piece of russet felt, and Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy water soluble stabiliser.
I wanted to try printing the pattern onto the Sulky water soluble stabiliser. I really dislike transferring embroidery patterns to fabric so thought I would try something new. It wasn’t hard to print the pattern on to it and then I could peel away the backing and stick it directly on the felt. I trimmed it slightly so it was a manageable size and started.
The pattern was easy to follow and I started by outlining the embroidery with black thread before adding detail with the autumnal colours.
I finished the Desert Moth over a couple of evenings, I loved seeing it come together. When I had finished all the embroidery I trimmed it to the banner shape.
The Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy water soluble stabiliser simple melts away under warm water.
The banner dried quickly in the sun and I added a piece of dowel so the banner could be hung up.
The colours really complement each other and I’m glad to have some Autumnal stitching on display.

Oh this looks fantastic. My Mum used to do a lot of embroidery when I was younger, and we had things like this hanging all over the house 🙂
I love the colours of this, it feels very Autumnal. And it’s nice that it was a relatively easy one to do so you could relax while doing it x
