I love to craft and am a complete hoarder. So when I heard this months’ theme for the Project Recycle and Create blog hop was bottle tops I was pretty happy because I have been collecting them since the children started weaning. I tried making my own fruit purees but they preferred the shop bought ones. We went through every variety there was and as a result, have a pretty good collection of bottle tops waiting to be played with!
I brought the box of bottle tops out and the children immediately remembered them. My 4 year old still asks for them even though I haven’t bought them for years.
There were all sorts of colours and they had fun sorting them into piles according to their size, shape and colour. Then I suggested we turn their piles into mandalas.
My 4 year old didn’t really understand the concept and made pretty patterns with the different bottle tops. She enjoyed alternating the colours and making long snakes with them. My 6 year did understand the idea after we looked at a few online, then he was keen to try it himself.
We decided to use a plate to help him keep the circular shape. His younger sister was able to help pass him the colours he needed.
He had soon made a beautiful bottle top mandala which he was really proud of. In fact, we had to keep it on the floor all day (carefully surrounded by cushions) so his Daddy could see it when he got home from work.
Project: Recycle and Create is a monthly blog hop organised by Nadia at Teach me Mommy. Don’t forget to see what the other participants have been creating:
