My 5 year old loves small world play. She always has done and I love getting her toys to support this. She has a lot of Playmobil and Sylvanian Families toys, both of which are perfect for this. Small world play is really important as it encourages a wide range of skills, including language and literacy, understanding of the world and working together. ItĀ encourage children to use their imaginations, express thoughts and experiences into their play, whilst exploring the world in which they live.
I’ve noticed that my daughter’s play has taken a decidedly festive turn recently. I often hear her characters talking about what they will be “ordering” for Christmas which gives me a chance to talk to her and set the record straight!
There are so many toys around and I love the fact you can buy special sets to celebrate the holidays. We recently received the Sylvanian Families Christmas Set which my daughter was delighted with. This set comes with over 20 pieces, including Freya Chocolate Rabbit wearing her special Santa-style dress and Christmas hat.
Complete with all the Christmas trimmings, it includes a star-topped tree and cute matching sparkly decorations in a variety of shapes from snowflakes to booties. Gifts included too – a selection of wrapped parcels to put under the tree and a mini Cosy Cottage, bunny and car. Brimming with Christmas spirit, this pack even includes festive cards and room decorations!
I love the level of detail with Sylvanian Families toys. My daughter enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree and setting the presents around it. It’s a lovely set and great for Christmas small world play.
TheĀ Sylvanian Families Christmas Set costs around Ā£19.99 and is available from Amazon and all good toy shops.

December 16, 2016 at 1:09 pmSylvanian Families, Playmobil… yes my daughter loved them all. I totally agree, small world play does wonders for developing kids’ imagination, and I too loved to hear her stories (hiding, as I did, behind the door so she couldn’t see me!). Tx
