    15+ Toilet Paper Roll Crafts

    I don’t know about you, but my kids love raiding the recycling box for their craft materials. One thing we always seem to have plenty of is toilet paper roll. The cardboard inner makes the perfect craft material and we’ve featured plenty of crafts using them, from toilet roll chicks to toilet roll angels. We’ve also used toilet roll tubes to paint with, and even grow seeds. There are lots of ways to re-use and recycle a toilet paper roll, so I thought it would be fun to bring together 15+ Toilet Paper Roll crafts to keep the kids busy.…

    21 new Elf on the Shelf ideas

    December whizzes by pretty quickly for any family but especially for parents who are trying to hide an Elf on the Shelf. My children still believe in the magic of Christmas so we were excited to bring out our Elf on the Shelf to bring some extra magic throughout December. This year I bought a few books and extra accessories to help me as there’s nothing worse than remembering you haven’t moved your Elf when you’re off to bed. I bought an Elf on the Shelf Gingerbread Activity Set, and two books – Elf On The Shelf Scout Elves at Play…

    Cardboard tube sea anemones

    During half term we went rock pooling at the beach. This is something I did as a child and something my children now enjoy. It is so easy as you don’t really need anything, just a rocky beach with the tide out! When we were in Devon we visited a lovely beach where we watched the Torbay Airshow. Whilst my husband was watching the planes the children and I explored the beach. It was a pebbly beach, perfect to discover lots of little sea creatures hiding in the shallow pools of water. Although we weren’t brave enough to pick up…

    How to make your own bird feeder

    This month we’re taking part in the 30 Days Wild challenge. My children are pretty wild and outdoorsy so this seemed like a great challenge for them. This week we had the added bonus of taking part in a family litter pick to mark Blue Peter’s 60th birthday. Be Plastic Clever 60 or #BPC60 is the brain child of Kids Against Plastic who are running a competition to find the best litter pick photos. CBBC presenter Naomi Wilkinson came along to my daughter’s school to talk to them about the impact on the environment and our health caused by continued use of single use plastic. My daughter…

    Advent candle wreath craft for kids

    We have a strict no-Christmas rule in our house in November. My daughter celebrates her birthday at the end of the month and we try not to do any Christmassy things before the end of the month. This doesn’t stop me planning but it makes sure we all focus on her and her birthday. This year we slipped a quick and easy Advent craft in over the weekend whilst she was out 🙂 Equipment to make an Advent candle wreath craft for kids Cardboard tube Shiny craft paper Bostik White Glu Embroidery hoop Pipe cleaners and ribbons Red craft foam…

    Make your own PJ Masks Headquarters

    My 5 year old recently discovered PJ Masks. Little does she know that she’ll be receiving some goodies for her birthday at the end of the month! In the meantime she has been collecting the different figures from the blind bags with her pocket money. We thought we would make our own Headquarters for them to play in. It was so simple so we’re going to share how we made the PJ Masks Headquarters.     How to build a bug hotel {Part 2}

    A few weeks ago I mentioned how we started work building our own bug hotel. The kids love learning about all the different animals they see in the garden so we thought a bug hotel would be fun. What we used to build a Bug Hotel bricks flower pot corrugated cardboard bamboo sticks cardboard tubes How to build a bug hotel A bug hotel can be as simple of complicated as you want. Our garden is quite small but we found a quiet corner we thought would be perfect. We roughly measured where we wanted the bug hotel to go. It…

    Recycled cardboard tube seed pots

    Today I’m taking part in Project: recycle and create, a monthly blog celebrating eco-friendly creativity in children. This months theme was cardboard tubes which we always seem to have plenty of, except when you need them! I have been asking everyone to save their cardboard tubes this month so we had a few to play around with to make recycled cardboard tube seed pots. I cut a standard cardboard tube in half using my Swann Morton blade. I placed one half to one side. Using a pair of scissors I cut about a third of the way down the tube.…
