    Summer sewing

I don’t have a particular project on the go at the moment. Last week I finished my maverick star dolls quilt for Little Sis. It was a bit of an impromptu make and now I don’t know what to make next. Instead of crafting I have been reading, mainly the new Quilt Now magazine and Mollie Makes blogging bookazine. I love the new quilting magazine and have been picking up some great tips from Mollie Makes blogging. I have a couple of subscriptions to craft magazines such as Mollie Makes and Love Patchwork and Quilting but I can’t help browsing…

Spring Stitching Club quilt – finished!

Over the past couple of months I’ve been slowly embroidering hexagons for Wild Olive’s Spring Stitching Club quilt, a fun weekly stitching club. I finished the embroidered panel but needed to put the quilt together. I’m not great at finishing projects so I blogged about my progress in the hope it would encourage me to complete it. I’m pretty pleased to say I finished my quilt over the weekend! It’s lovely to see it finished after working on small hexagons for weeks. It’s actually come together quite quickly and I really love it (as does my 4 year old). After I…

    Wild Olive’s Spring Stitching Club

I like nothing more than having a couple of sewing projects on the go. I’ve been working on Wild Olive’s Spring Stitching Club for a while and thought I’d write about my progress to spur me on to finish it. The Stitching Club in a Seasonal sewing club where you receive a weekly email with an embroidery pattern. Over the weeks the individual pieces are made into something bigger, such as a doll quilt or cushion cover. So far I’ve only completed the Summer Stitching Club but I have the Autumn and Winter patterns too which I will get round…

How to make a minibeast costume

A couple of weeks ago I read those words that strike fear into a parents heart. My 4 year old was taking part in a Minibeast concert at nursery and needed to dress up as a minibeast. I pride myself on being an organised parent but I only found out about the dress up a week before the event! When I asked my son what he wanted to wear he said a worm, a snail and also a butterfly. We had a chat and compromised on a ladybird cape that could be worn with black trousers and a black long-sleeved…

What I’m reading: Little Quilts by Sarah Fielke & Amy Lobsiger

I promised myself I would spend more time on my hobbies and am trying to finish off lots of sewing projects before I start any more. However when a copy of Little Quilts by Sarah Fielke & Amy Lobsiger landed on my doorstep there was a project I just had to make straight away. Craft books are a major weakness and indulgence and Little Quilts is my kind of book. I love making little quilts for Little Sis to play with and I’ve already made a couple. Little Quilts features 15 step-by-step projects for small quilts using traditional and contemporary…

    Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day

To celebrate my love of sewing and craft I’m joining in with Giveaway Day at Sew Mama Sew. Like many areas in my life I always have a couple of projects on the go. At the moment I’m working on a ticker tape doll quilt, a Union Flag cot quilt, Wild Olive’s Spring Stitching Club quilt and trying out a project from Little Quilts by Sarah Fielke and Amy Lobsiger which I was sent to review. I forgot, I’m also supposed to be making my 4 year old a ladybird costume for nursery! Sewing has always been one of my…

    Hand sewing

This year is supposed to be all about living more creatively. Instead of spending my money on blogging conferences which all tell me the same things (which I already know) I decided to spend any spare cash on learning new sewing skills and techniques. So far I’ve been on two of these courses and they’ve both been great. Last month I attended a hand quilting workshop with Charlotte Newland at The Village Haberdashery in West Hampstead. Hand quilting is the method of sewing together the three layers of a quilt (the backing, the wadding, and the top) together by hand rather…

    Felt peppermint Christmas ornaments

Last week I signed up for my first Christmas craft swap organised by Laura at Dropstitch. It was the first one I’d seen and swapping parcels of crafty goodness always gets me in the mood for the festive season. The swap was simple – make four oops five (so glad I re-read the instructions!) handmade Christmas ornaments. Felt peppermint Christmas ornaments I had a good look through my craft books and Pinterest boards and found some very cute felt peppermint Christmas ornaments which I knew would be perfect. I love working with felt and the felt version of any Christmas…

    Super cute felt animals

You all know how much I love sewing with felt so it’s probably no surprise that I have been eagerly awaiting the second book by Laura Howard who blogs at bugsandfishes. Super Cute Felt Animals features 35 bright and appealing animals from the land, sea and air, to make. I packed the book to take with us on our weekend away and I really enjoyed looking through it. As you can see I took enough supplies so I was able to make some animals when the children finally went to sleep. Woodland creatures include a crafty fox and her cute cubs, a…
