The cold wet weather has kept us indoors the last few days. Fortunately we were sent a really fun craft book which has kept us busy and helped us explore new things. Craft it Up Around the World brings the great wide world into the home with 35 travel-inspired craft projects! The toddler and I enjoyed sitting down and looking through it together, we’ve already chosen a couple of fun projects to do. The authors, Libby Abadee and Cath Armstrong have created Craft It Up Around The World to inspire children to look at the world around them in a…

It doesn’t look like we’ll be getting the warm weather over this Bank Holiday weekend that we enjoyed at the beginning of the month. If, like me, you haven’t packed away your winter woollies then I have the perfect craft book to share with you – Knitted animal hats by Fiona Goble. Knitted Animal Hats is a fun craft book containing 35 wild and wonderful hats and more for babies, kids, and the young at heart. The toddler and I have enjoyed choosing some projects to make from this book. It’s not just the cold weather but I think my…

I thought it would be fun to use my buttons in a different way and decorate some tshirts for Little Sis. I chose a handful of buttons which were unusual and made them into stamps, using some corks and a glue gun. I left them overnight to dry and then dipped them in fabric paint before carefully applying them to a blank piece of fabric to practice. Some worked better than others and gave a clearer result so I ended up using two of the buttons on two blank tshirts. One dark tshirt was stamped around the neckline and bottom…

I came across a new magazine last week called Reloved – the creative guide to upcycling. The cover immediately appealed to me so I bought it even though I have little time for reading at the moment. I love to recycle and upcycle and am always on the lookout for smallish items which I can put my own stamp on. I have a couple of half-finished projects which I’ve never got round to blogging about (mental note to write about them soon). One of my favourites is a small wooden box found boarded up in our old house. It was…

We love taking inspiration from everyday items and the stormy weather has been perfect for staying indoors and getting crafty. 3M have just launched Post-it Notes Colour Cubes, packs of Post-it Notes in a range of vibrant hues. We were sent a selection of the new Post-it Notes Colour Cubes and challenged to create a piece of Post-it artwork with our favourite colours. Over the last week we’ve been inspired to have some fun indoors and so far we’ve made a photo booth backdrop, origami boxes and a temporary racetrack for cars! We decided to create a London picture as the…

There’s something lovely about old wool blankets. They feel lovely and are easy to transform into something useful, thank goodness we no longer need them on our beds. I’ve been on the lookout for vintage wool blankets for ages and recently bought a double blanket in perfect condition in a charity shop in Frome for only £3.99. They seem to be getting harder to find but I was really pleased with this one. It still had its original label and was an unusual peach colour. Dyeing wool blankets It was too big to use so I cut it into several…

Today you can find me guest posting over at PinAddicts Challenge about how to display vintage fabrics. If you haven’t yet, I would love it if you took a moment to vote for me in the BiBs Awards as I’ve been shortlisted in the Crafts section! (just click on the badge in the top right corner) On the 19 September 2010 I started a Day Zero list: a place to record goals, discover new challenges, and gain motivation to achieve them. I made a list of 100 things I want to do over 1001 days. The list is due to…

The toddler turned 3 a couple of week ago and for the last couple of months has been a little obsessed with the films Cars and Cars 2. He still loves his Thomas the Tank Engine but I’d say every day he’ll spend a little more time with his collection of Cars. Thanks to Christmas and birthday presents he now has quite a collection of both. A bit like his Thomas obsession, he also has to wear Cars-themed clothing, eat and drink from Cars plates and cups and has a bedroom covered in posters of cars! Anyway, for his birthday…

My children are really lucky to be sent some lovely new books, the latest is Little Poppets which is a new series of board book first stories following the adventures of four friends: Mole, Rose, Pippin and Mouse (the Little Poppets). These gently humorous stories and the intricately conceived detail of the world in which they live will delight children and adults alike. The stories are sweet and comical, with little mysteries for the Little Poppets to solve, such as where on earth the socks on Mouse’s sock tree are really coming from! Both my children have been enjoying Mouse’s…
