Any one starting to worry how to keep the kids busy over the Summer holidays? I have to admit that panic is starting to kick in. I’ve booked quite a few things but that doesn’t stop me trying to come up with ideas for some of the days we’ll be spending at home. I love to have different days out, other than the park or cinema. Living on the edge of London we’re really lucky to be within easy reach of farms and countryside. I thought I would post a round up of some of our favourite farms to visit…

Although our holiday in Norfolk was a few weeks ago I haven’t managed to write up half the places we managed to visit. Today I wanted to tell you about Pensthorpe Natural Park which was recommended to us by someone we got chatting too. I hadn’t heard of Pensthorpe but it was one of our favourite family days out in Norfolk. Pensthorpe Natural Park Pensthorpe is situated just outside Fakenham, only 20 minutes from where we were staying at Wells-next-the-Sea. I have to admit that the name of the place initially put me off. I knew that the kids wouldn’t be keen…

We love half term. The freedom from the school routine is sooooo welcome! The Summer term is fun but seems super busy with the longer days and more outdoor activities! This half term we’re staying pretty local with a few long weekends visiting family. Last weekend we took ourselves off to Stonehenge. It’s somewhere we have wanted to visit for a while, especially since my son studied the Stone Age in Year 3. Exploring Stonehenge with kids We’re English Heritage members so had pre-booked our tickets via their website. We picked a 10am slot as we knew it would get…

Happy Monday everyone. Hope you had a great weekend and are enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend. I love starting off each week by writing my Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things blog post. It’s a great chance to reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I always enjoy writing. Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things Last week I had a second interview for a job I really wanted. I recently decided it’s time to return to work outside of the home. It’s…

Half term just isn’t half term without a visit to family in Wiltshire. We’re really lucky that my mum lives in a sweet little Wiltshire village, close to the border with Somerset, and within easy access to some lovely family-friendly days out. If you’re looking for days out with the kids around Bradford-on-Avon then here are 9 places to visit around Bradford-on-Avon with kids. 9 places to visit around Bradford-on-Avon with kids Bradford on Avon Tithe Barn This is a spectacular 14th century monastic stone barn, 51 metres long, with an amazing timber cruck roof. It’s well worth a visit,…

I love a Bank Holiday weekend and it’s not long until the next one. The weather was amazing for the first May Bank Holiday weekend so I wonder what the chances are of it being so lovely and sunny again? Fingers crossed the weather should be good and it always feels like we can properly relax when it’s a 3 day weekend. If you’re looking for something to keep the kids occupied then why not pop down to your local Smyths Toys Superstores on Saturday May 26th. Between 9am-2pm your local store will be hosting a party and everyone’s invited! Children…

Today we visited Old Warden Aerodrome in Bedfordshire for the MayFly, an annual event organised by ModelAir. My husband builds and flies model planes and this is an annual event we never miss. MayFly at Old Warden The MayFly is held at the Old Warden Aerodrome in Old Warden, Bedfordshire, just off the A1 at Biggleswade. Originally the home, gardens and vintage aircraft and vehicle collection of the Shuttleworth family, it is now known as The Shuttleworth Collection. As well as The Collection, there is also a large airfield, a Swiss Garden, children’s play area, cafe and gift shop. When we arrived…

We love a heritage railway and on our recent trip to North Norfolk managed to ride on the North Norfolk Railway, which goes from the pretty seaside town of Sheringham to Holt. Sheringham to Holt {North Norfolk Railway} The North Norfolk Railway offers a 10.5 mile round trip by steam train (there are vintage diesel trains on some journeys) through an area of North Norfolk designated as being of outstanding natural beauty. We didn’t have great weather during our holiday but it didn’t stop us wanting to go on the steam train. We arrived at Sheringham and took the first…

We are so lucky to have Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve and Ruislip Lido near where we live. The Lido gets pretty busy on a sunny weekend so we avoid going but it’s surrounded by ancient woodland which is the perfect place to escape to for a cool walk. We last visited a few weeks ago and were so happy to see the bluebells blooming. We headed for a walk around Park Wood. It had been raining a lot but thankfully there were lots of raised paths so we didn’t get too muddy. My children love the woods and it was…
