It feels like a while since we went out for the day. General Christmas busy-ness and then trying to ward off the January blues, we decided it was time to go a little further afield. However, where to go? It almost felt like we closed our eyes and placed a finger on a map, ending up with Runnymede. This ticked the box for just 30 minutes drive away, and owned by the National Trust. Exploring Runnymede, the home of the Magna Carta We’ve been to Windsor a few times lately. It is near where we live and great for shopping…

We love a trip to see Christmas lights. Last year we booked to visit Christmas at Kew but it sadly got cancelled due to the pandemic. So we were excited to re-book and go this year. Kew Gardens is a wonderful place to visit any season and we were lucky to visit Kew Gardens last March. Light installations and trails are becoming increasingly popular. Last year we enjoyed the lights around Wembley Park Christmas lights and drove around the track at Silverstone. Experiences are popping up all over the country and make a welcome outdoor activity! Last night we were invited to the Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone, the UK’s only Christmas lights drive. We are huge fans of Formula 1 so we were really excited to go to an event at Silverstone, the home of British Motor Racing. Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone The Lap of Lights experience at Silverstone is the UK’s only Christmas lights drive. But that’s not all, it really is hours of entertainment with an ice skating track, axe throwing, curling as well as your Lap of Lights around the track at Silverstone. It was amazingly well organised and we…

I was really keen to re-visit the wild flower meadows we discovered in Ickenham last year. I had a few comments about it on my Instagram and wanted to pop over to see if the same fields had been left as wild flower meadows. We’re lucky to have lots of open green spaces in Hillingdon and we all love to see the wild flower verges which have been sown. This year there were red and pink poppies which are now over, but the verges are still full of colourful wild flowers and cow parsley. Wild flower meadow Ickenham Our little…

It’s been 9 months since our last visit to Hughenden. When it re-opened in June we found tickets were like gold dust, but we finally managed to visit this weekend. A lot of things have changed since our last visit but it’s still worth a visit. So let me tell you a little about our socially-distanced visit to Hughenden Manor. Hughenden Manor was home to Queen Victoria’s favourite Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli. It provided a backdrop for political drama, royal visits and an enduring love story. And it has a secret wartime story to tell. A socially-distanced visit to Hughenden…

We’ve visited Rickmansworth Aquadrome in Hertfordshire quite a few times over the last few months. We’re so lucky to have a variety of places to walk on our doorstep. Our pup loves it when we take him somewhere new and the circular walks are a great length for his little legs. Every time we visit we seem to spot something new and Rickmansworth Aquadrome is a lovely place to take kids. Exploring Rickmansworth Aquadrome with kids The main features of Rickmansworth Aquadrome are Batchworth Lake and Bury Lake. The lakes were formed through gravel extraction which ceased in the 1920s.…

Last weekend we were looking for somewhere new to take the children and the puppy. We ventured a little further afield than normal, yet still only 30 minutes from where we live, and found the delightful Ray Mill Island and Boulter’s Lock, Maidenhead, Berkshire. A pretty place on the Thames with a little cafe, perfect for a picnic and a little boat watching. Ray Mill Island and Boulter’s Lock This little island in the Thames is in Maidenhead. The island’s name dates from when the Ray family managed a flour mill there. There is no car park on Ray Mill…

Now lockdown is easing we don’t seem to be exploring as much as we were. We can go further afield and more attractions are opening up, which means we are going further for our days out. On one of our many puppy walks/geocaching expeditions we came across Pynchester Moat in Ickenham. We went on a lovely sunny evening and it was the perfect length of walk for our pup. Exploring Pynchester Moat, Ickenham The moated site known as Pynchester lies in a bend of the River Pinn, behind houses in Copthall Road West and just within Harefield Parish. It’s a…
