I know we haven’t even had Christmas yet but my thoughts have been turning to 2018 and all the lovely things we will be making next year. Did you know that in 2018 Chinese New Year falls on February 16th? In Chinese astrology, each year is related to a Chinese zodiac animal according to the 12-year cycle, and 2018 will be the Year of the Dog. My children love learning about different cultures so I thought it would be fun to make something at home. We have tried a lot of crafts to celebrate Chinese New Year. This year we made…

I love Christmas and I love Star Wars too. We’ve booked tickets to go and see Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi this weekend. My 6-year-old asked if anything was showing at the cinema but I said no! I really want to watch the new film as much as my husband and son. We’ve had so much fun with Star Wars crafts at home that I thought it would be fun to share a round-up of my favourites. 10 Star Wars Christmas decorations to make Easy BB-8 droid decoration from the gingerbread house This year we have a red…

I had a tidy up of our craft materials yesterday when the kids were at school. When they got home they saw what I had been doing and wanted to get everything out! I love a bit of after school crafting. It’s the perfect way to wind down after a busy day at school and a great way to talk to my children about what they’ve been up to. They are usually so engrossed with their crafting that they actually talk to me about their lessons or who they played with. Equipment to make a button wreath decoration Green and…

Is it just me or is there a lot to buy in order to get everyone back to school in September? The school uniform, shoes and stationery is bought so my thoughts have been turning to how to commemorate the first day back at school. When my children started school we started our own traditions. In previous years I’ve taken lots of photos of my children looking all sparkly and clean. Last year we used our lightbox to record the date too. There are lots of ways to commemorate the first day of term. Here are 10 back to school…

I’m one of those mums who loves to mark every occasion. Cards, special breakfasts, lots of photos – anything goes! I’m happy to make a big deal of first days, last days, exams and everything else. The summer holidays have passed way too quickly and I can’t believe we’re getting ready to go back to school. This term we thought we’d start the first day of term with something a little different, and have been crafting a Back to School photo frame. To create our Back To School photo frame we used: A4 coloured card Bostik Foam Pads Alphabet letters Stickers…

We love crafting with washi tape. A few years ago I went crazy buying it and we still have so much of it. The good thing is that it is still sticky and perfect for crafting with. It’s especially fun for the children as they can just tear the tape with their fingers, no need for scissors! With Valentine’s Day coming up it is a great time to start on handmade Valentine’s Day cards and gifts. We always make them for the family and this year have made simple washi tape Valentine hearts bookmarks. We used: Heart-shaped cookie cutter Washi…

Last week I helped on a trip my son went on with his Year 2 class. We stopped to look at the colour of trees and the children loved picking up conkers and pine cones on the way. Autumn is a great season as I think it is easier for children to see the change in the weather, the leaves changing and falling, and there are so many opportunities to craft! Baker Ross sent us some of their new Autumn craft kits to try at home and these have been great as both my children have been off school this week.…

I have been thinking about different ways for my children to play with their toys and I thought of combining their favourite Star Wars toys with our tuff spot. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best and our Star Wars sensory bin has been recreated several times. For our DIY Star Wars sensory bin for kids we used: Selection of Star Wars toys Tuff spot Sand Wooden stars DIY Star Wars sensory bin for kids: Our tuff spot gets a lot of use at this time of year.
