We’re a family that enjoys eating out. My lovely new kitchen is not quite finished so when we were invited to sample the new menu at our local Café Rouge I jumped at the chance. It’s been a while since we last visited our local Café Rouge. It’s housed in a gorgeous old building on the High Street and we usually go when we want a grown up lunch date. However the invitation was for the whole family so off we went.
My children were more than happy with the Children’s Menu which was a fixed price of £6.95 for 3 courses and a drink. The menu was packed full of activities which they were happy to read whilst they waited for their food.
The Edition, Autumn Winter Issue at Café Rouge
Last week Café Rouge welcomed The Edition, Autumn Winter Issue, a collision of modern, French cuisine with British highlights. I think I could have eaten pretty much anything on the menu as it all sounded delicious. The new dishes were helpfully marked with a small *NEW* sign so it was easy to identify them.
I opted for the Soupe À L’oignon (French Onion Soup) with Gruyère and croutons; Saumon, skin on salmon fillet with buttered spinach, croutons, lemon and beurre noisette; followed by Tarte aux Pommes, a warm apple tart with tarte tatin ice cream.
All three dishes were delicious and it was a real pleasure to reaquaint myself with French cuisine. My husband opted for a steak and my children were really happy with their choices. The portion sizes were good and the staff were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We’re looking forward to sampling more of the Autumn Winter Issue at Café Rouge!
In case you fancy trying the new Autumn menu then you will want to know that Café Rouge are letting kids eat for free this half term. FREE. Sacre bleu! Yes, you read correctly! Les enfants can enjoy a petite starter, main, dessert and soft drink with a full paying adult. Find your nearest Café Rouge here.
