Cafe Rouge Spring menu review

Enjoying the new Spring menu at Cafe Rouge

Posted on May 7, 2017March 7, 2021 by jenny

We have a lovely Cafe Rouge on our local hight street. It’s in a beautiful old building – for some reason this always ticks all my boxes when I’m eating out – and I love to eat local. We were invited along to try the new Spring menu at Cafe Rouge so yesterday, after a day of gardening and relaxing at home, we went along to try it out for ourselves.

We’ve been to Cafe Rouge quite a few times now. It’s our go-to place when we have family and friends round as we know there’s always something on the menu everyone will enjoy.

It’s handily placed on the high street and a great place to grab a meal before heading off to the theatre or cinema. We like to eat quite early but there were a few people seated around the restaurant. We were seated in our favourite windows seat over looking the high street so we could watch the shops closing and people passing by.

We ordered some drinks whilst we looked at the new Spring menu. My children had already decided what they wanted and I didn’t notice that the children’s menu had changed significantly since our last visit. They ordered the baguette slices and crudités to start, followed by a burger for one and pasta for the other. They chose the chocolate crepe and ice cream for desert. They were hungry so ate everything on their plates which is always a good sign that they’re enjoying themselves.

My husband ordered a steak as he had been looking forward to it all day. That just left me to try out the new Spring menu. I ordered the Mackerel Rillettes for my first course: a homemade smoked mackerel pate with dill pickled cucumber and rye and caraway bread. It looked beautiful and tasted amazing. I never cook fish at home so always enjoy it when we’re eating out.

My main course was Porc a la Viennoise: a delicious pork fillet coated in breadcrumbs served with a fried egg on top, capers and frites. I love pork and this was cooked perfectly, the thyme jus really set it off.

I was quite full after this but I really wanted desert and there were some really lovely ones on the menu. I opted for Eton Mess which isn’t very French but I love it! My husband chose the salted caramel parfait which looked amazing.

We had a lovely evening and the food was delicious. I can’t wait to go back again soon and try some of the other new seasonal dishes. You can find out more about their new menu on the Cafe Rouge website, as well as your nearest restaurant.

Have you been to Cafe Rouge lately?

I really enjoy Cafe Rogue, they can cook a steak to perfection. We have one just around the corner from us yet sadly we don’t visit enough. It’s on the list to try for the next date night. Stephen

All that food looks really nice! I haven’t actually ever been to a Cafe Rouge. Will have to remedy this!

Everything looks delicious. I love choosing foods I don’t cook at home when I’m out too! I’ve not been to Cafe Rouge before, I don’t think there is one near me.
