    Flashback Friday – first birthday

There’s a new photograph meme over at Cafe Bebe called Flashback Friday. It sounded fun and I found the perfect photograph! We’ll shortly be celebrating Edward’s first birthday and I thought I’d compare my own party many moons ago. I’m a definite child of the 70s with that plastic bib and the party food. We’re taking Edward off to Bruges for a couple of days over his birthday so hopefully we’ll have a little party when we return home. Expect the same kind of photograph of Edward surrounded by food with rosy red cheeks, recorded for posterity.

    Insider knowledge

When I was younger we went on lots of family holidays to caravan parks all around the coast. Each year we’d go somewhere different and spend a week exploring the countryside, eating lovely pub lunches, visiting castles and country houses and inevitably getting sunburn or soaking wet. This was before the internet, smart phones or review websites. Since those good old days you can now pretty much find out any information you need before you travel as review websites exist for hotels, caravan sites and places to eat. Since Edward arrived we’ve only holidayed with friends and family. However I…

Five things you want your children to know about you

I love Ella’s Notes from Home and have previously joined in a couple of times. This week’s prompt really made me think: Five things you want your children to know about you. Did I really exist before Edward came along? Sometimes it’s hard to remember!   1 I did exist before you came along. I’m more than a mummy, I’m more than a wife, daughter, sister, auntie, friend. Sometimes I struggle to remember who I once was. I’d love to be more than a label and am working hard to forge my own identity. 2 I have dreams but they’ve…

    Reasons to be Cheerful 1,2,3

Michelle at Mummy From The Heart hosts a great weekly meme called Reasons to be Cheerful. I’ve seen lots of bloggers join in and thought I would have a go.     1 Edward took his first step today! I really wanted this to happen before he starts nursery as I wanted to see it. Lately he’s been standing unaided for a few seconds and today he took his first step. I went a bit mad and shrieked at my husband who fortunately saw him do it too. 2 I’m off to the Save the Children Blogging conference on Saturday…

Five Things That Make Me Feel Good

This meme has been around for a while and as nobody has tagged me (sob) I thought I would join in. So Five Things That Make Me Feel Good: 1 Putting an exhausted boy to bed because we’ve had a great day together. I love it when we’re both tired but happy. This means that we’ve had a good day, probably gone out and done something fun and created memories. 2 An empty washing basket means I’m on top of some of the domestic chores. The washing basket seems to be permanently full since Edward arrived. He’s a proper boy…

Tommee Tippee DECT Digital Movement and Sound Monitor

When I was pregnant a reliable baby monitor was top of my list of items to purchase. We were recommended a certain brand as part of our nursery advice at John Lewis, purchased the monitor and have used it ever since. 11 months later and Tommee Tippee have recently launched a new Digital Movement & Sound Monitor that uses Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology (DECT) offering interference free monitoring. We were sent one to try out. A key feature of this monitor is its unique sensor pad, designed to sit under the baby’s cot mattress. This monitors and sounds an alarm…
