    Flourless Double Chocolate Brownies

How are you treating the Dad in your family this year? We’ve booked a delicious Sunday lunch in a nearby pub, I’m very happy I don’t have to slave over a hot stove for once! As a treat for my husband I’ve been busy baking some Flourless Double Chocolate Brownies. We don’t have any intolerances but we all adore brownies and this recipe sounded interesting! I’ve never baked without using flour before but I followed the recipe for Flourless Double Chocolate Brownies (gluten free) on the Dr Oetker website. The only slight change I made was to bake my brownies in…

A book, some sewing and a competition

We’ve had an amazingly busy weekend. It was lovely to do some non-house related stuff and we had a great day out in London as well as a fun playdate with friends. Somehow I managed to finish the latest BritMums bookclub book – Ancient Lights by John Banville. It was the strangest book I’ve read in a long time. The main character of the book is a complete narcissist and I found him difficult to like. He was very wordy too…. Anyway, the premise is that in a small town in Ireland in the 1950s a fifteen-year-old boy has illicit…

Baby TV Royal Baby Naming Competition

BABY TV is launching a Royal Baby-Naming Competition with a fab prize. In a nationwide survey by www.babytv.com  involving 1500 UK parents, it’s believed that Will and Kate will stick to their Royal roots naming a male heir to the throne Philip (24%) and Diana (27.52%) if it’s a girl. However, the names Charles and William only polled 7% apiece as potential names for the little prince, whilst Elizabeth faired better garnering 18.35% of the vote. Whatever the decision, it’s likely that the Duchess of Cambridge will have the final say – according to the research, almost 60% of British…

    London’s sandy beach

We had the most amazing day out today at the London Eye and South Bank. It’s one of my favourite places in London and there’s lots to do for free! We didn’t tell the toddler where we were going until we were right underneath the London Eye and luckily he was excited about going on it. The weather was perfect so we all enjoyed the view from our pod. There was enough space for the children to move freely around and they were very well behaved. After our little ride we went for a walk along the South Bank which…

Win with P&G this Father’s Day

I’ve mentioned the Everyday Effect before, basically the everyday things that us mums do for our family which make all the difference. P&G have made it their mission to make products which help towards making everyday life that little bit better. With Father’s Day round the corner, P&G want to help the Dad in your family see how the things they think are ordinary are, in fact, quite the opposite. A recent survey by P&G found that small treats from their children made Dads feel more appreciated, so to wish the Dad in your family a happy Father’s Day I…

    Slice of Life

Eye-catching title huh? Today I need to share something with you. White bread is good for you. Fact. I think we’ve all got used to the argument that white bread is bad for you. I remember when I was at Uni a friend constantly sang “The whiter the bread, the quicker you’re dead” at me. That really stuck with me and I’ve been buying brown and wholemeal bread ever since. The odd loaf of white bread has snuck in, as we all know just how delicious it is toasted and dripping with butter. Today I was invited to the launch…

Win a Peppa Pig Play Tent

The weather has been perfect the last couple of days. We’ve been enjoying our lovely new garden which is just the right size for the children to run around in. Over the weekend my husband finished building them a beautiful wooden playhouse and today a new sand pit arrived – hopefully these will keep them busy. We’re really spoilt for choice these days as there are so many outdoor toys to choose from. We found Argos have a brilliant selection of climbing frames to suit all ages and abilities. The toddler would have enjoyed one of their bouncy castles too…

New board books from Petr Horacek

We love reading. Both children have recently started asking for two books at bedtime (the toddler told me that “Nanny said so”) which means I’m always happy to be sent books to review 🙂 We recently received two lovely new board books from award-winning author/illustrator Petr Horacek. Honk Honk! Baa Baa! and Time for Bed, both published by Walker Books, are fun, interactive board books designed and created with little ones in mind. Petr Horacek has been leading the way for over ten years, creating beautiful books for children and his board books are no exception. Full of striking illustrations,…

    A little room for improvement

I love a challenge and was excited to be asked to take part in the latest one from MoneySupermarket.com, to improve a room of my choice within my home. As you all know we only moved into our new house last month so it was pretty difficult to decide which room to improve. I settled on Little Sis’s room as she moved into her own bedroom when we moved house. Considering she had shared with us from the day she was born, the transition to her own room went completely unnoticed by her. I miss her little sniffles and snores…
