New board books from Petr Horacek

Posted on June 2, 2013 by jenny

We love reading. Both children have recently started asking for two books at bedtime (the toddler told me that “Nanny said so”) which means I’m always happy to be sent books to review πŸ™‚ We recently received two lovely new board books from award-winning author/illustrator Petr Horacek.

Honk Honk! Baa Baa!Honk Honk! Baa Baa! and Time for Bed, both published by Walker Books, are fun, interactive board books designed and created with little ones in mind. Petr Horacek has been leading the way for over ten years, creating beautiful books for children and his board books are no exception. Full of striking illustrations, in his instantly recognisable and distinctive style, each board book is created to stimulate a child’s development from day one. Full of texture, striking colours and images, created using a variety of mediums and told in a simple narrative, they are a must for all young families.

Time for BedBoth my children loved Honk Honk! Baa Baa! and Time for Bed. There’s a lot to appeal to both of them (18 months and 3 years) although I’ll admit that Honk Honk! Baa Baa! is already a firm favourite πŸ™‚

Petr Horacek trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague before becoming a graphic designer, illustrator and painter. He won the Books for Children Newcomer Award with Strawberries Are Red and What Is Black and White? He is also the creator of the loveable Suzy Goose character who has featured in Silly Suzy Goose, Look Out Suzy Goose and Suzy Goose and the Christmas Star. Other titles for Baby Walker include Night, Night and Creepy Crawly. Born in Czechoslovakia, Petr now lives in Worcester with his wife and two daughters.

Anything that involves making animal noises is always a winner, isn’t it! πŸ™‚
