How To Get The Best Results When Using A Silicone Mould With Flower Paste Have you ever seen a beautiful wedding cake that has delicate lace patterns on it and wondered just how the incredible effect was achieved? Although most sugar-crafters would love to have the skill needed to achieve such a finish the simple fact is that such accuracy is achieved by using flower paste formed into shape in a silicone mould. Using a mould allows incredibly fine and detailed shapes to be created using flower paste which would otherwise be impossible, or at least extremely difficult and time…

There are some great craft books coming out at the moment. I’ve found a few extra pennies to purchase a few and have ear-marked a few projects to make as gifts for people this year. One book I received to review was Sewlicious – 35 ways to a handmade world. The author, Kate Haxell, creates 35 stitched and highly original projects. This is a lovely craft book, beautifully photographed with clear instructions. The patterns are a little different from other craft books which is really refreshing. In the introduction Kate Haxell explains that “Sewlicious” is delicious sewing. “That just because…

This year for the first time we had fun crafting around the theme of Day of the Dead. This is a Mexican festival celebrated over three days at the end of October and focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. We don’t have any Mexican connections but my Pinterest stream has been full of ideas so we joined in. It’s been a while since we’ve tried printing with styrofoam but I thought a skull shape was perfect for this technique. Equipment you will need: styrofoam sheet black paint…

Today is my last weekly Summer holiday round up. I’m well aware that all of my friends have waved their children off to a new school term, except me. This morning it’s finally the turn of my 4 year old. I’m both excited that he’s starting a new chapter but also feeling terribly sad about losing him to school. Luckily for me I still have my 2 year old so no worries about my having lots of time on my hands to do the housework or food shopping 🙂 The past week has been quite busy as we’ve packed in…

I think I’ve mentioned that the only room in desperate need of a makeover is our living room/dining room. It’s a long room which runs the length of the house and is lovely and light. We’re in the process of deciding on a new sofa so hopefully that will influence a colour scheme soon or vice versa. You know I love to make doll quilts. They are pretty wasted on my 2 year so I’ve gradually been sneaking them away from her and washing them with the idea of hanging them and having my own quilt gallery wall. It was…

I was charity shopping at the weekend which won’t be a surprise to my regular readers. I often like to share my vintage finds and have a great collection of vintage Fisher Price toys. I’m not quite sure what it is I like about them, but I love to collect them whenever I see one I don’t yet have. I’m a child of the 80s so as well as my Fisher Price toys I had a small collection of My Little Pony, some boxes of Technical Lego and a beautiful dolls house my grandfather made for me. My toy collection…

We spent the morning at The Frome Independent, otherwise known at the Frome Artisan and Produce Market. It takes place the first Sunday of every month in Frome town centre and is well worth a visit. A day at The Frome Independent Our first stop was the Cheese & Grain where the Totally Craft & Make It Market was taking place. There were some lovely stalls and I completely fell in love with a beautiful stained glass piece of mistletoe. It might seem a little early to be buying something like this but I could easily have bought some items…

My 4 year old starts Reception next week. They are easing him in gently and he won’t be doing full days until the 22nd. Despite attending Nursery and wearing the school uniform I still needed to buy him a whole load of new items. Thankfully Matalan offered to kit him out for Reception. They gave me the opportunity to do my shopping in store or online and, as his return to school was fast approaching, I opted for online. The Matalan website is pretty easy to use. You can search via the School Shop tab on the homepage and I…
