How to add colour to your garden fence with marbles

How to add colour to your garden fence with marbles

Posted on July 9, 2020July 12, 2020 by jenny

Ages ago I came across a really fun Pin on Pinterest, showing colourful marbles in a garden fence. This is something I’ve wanted to for ages. I couldn’t find the Pin when I looked but I knew it would be pretty simple to do. We’ve spent a lot of time in our garden over the last few months. It was already in pretty good shape but we tidied up our homemade mud kitchen, made a kennel for the puppy, as well as a plant table to stop him from eating all our flowers!

We have a sunny north-facing garden and I knew the back fence would be the perfect place to put colourful marbles. The children have a lot of marbles but they didn’t want me to use any of theirs. Instead I bought a bag of coloured marbles from eBay. This was I knew they would all be the same size, and I could choose colours which would let a lot of light through.

We’ve had so many sunny days recently and I finally got round to placing the coloured marbles in the fence. There were already some small holes in the wooden fence, but unfortunately not the right size for a marble.

I gathered my drill and some wood glue and got ready to add colour to our garden fence. I chose a selection of green, blue and clear marbles. I picked a drill bit which was the same size as the marbles then chose a few places where I wanted the marbles. I wanted a really random selection across the wooden fence panels, where they could easily be seen and the light could shine through.

It was easy to drill the hole in the garden fence. Fortunately the marble fitted in the hole perfectly so I didn’t need the glue to keep it in place.

I went along the whole fence, placing the marbles randomly. They don’t sit flat in the fence but this is ok. There is no danger of them falling out as they fit really snugly. They’ve definitely added some interest to our garden fence and really shine when the sun is on them. They are eye-catching too and a really cheap way to update the garden fence.

I love this idea – it is so unique but so fun and the perfect way to add a little bit of colour to a garden!

I absolutely love this, it makes it a magical space and I’m sure when the light hits them it looks beautiful! Definitely going to give this a whirl! Xx
