How can it be that time of year again? The last year has flown by and we found ourselves picking pumpkins at the Pop Up Farm, our annual family tradition.
Picking pumpkins at the Pop Up Farm with teens
It can be difficult to get the teens outside but they are always happy to visit the Pop Up Farm. We’ve been for the past few years, and it makes a fun trip. We decided to go early in the month as we love to decorate for Halloween, it always seems simpler than Christmas.
I booked our tickets online so we parked our car, picked a wheelbarrow and headed to the pumpkin patch. We wanted a variety of pumpkins to decorate our home, some for family, and some to eat. The kids enjoyed looking for the best pumpkins, as they wanted one each to carve too.
We soon filled our wheelbarrow so we were able to stop to take photos. There were some good photo props this year, including a sunflower arch, a bath filled with pumpkins, a piano and even an old vaulting horse. There was also a sand pit, games and giant hay bales to climb – loads of activities for all ages.
The weather was alternatively bright and sunny or cold and windy. The farm is on a bit of a slope and we experienced all the weather! Fortunately there is a great barn where we could stop off for loaded hot chocolates and warm churros, which was just what the teens needed to keep going.
We headed to pay for our pumpkins and picked a selection of smaller pumpkins and squashes. Some were for decorations but we also chose a Baby Boo pumpkin to roast. When we got home, we placed the larger pumpkins outside to keep for a couple of weeks. We don’t want to carve them too early, especially as the weather is still quite warm.
