The teen and I have been enjoying making miniatures for our Maileg mice. We display our Maileg gingerbread house at Christmas but it seems to be staying out this year. So far we have decorated for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and even St David’s Day.
Making miniatures for Maileg mice
Our Maileg collection has grown and is now quite the family, consisting of Mum and Dad, Big Sister, Big Brother, Little Sister and triplet babies! They are 17cm and smaller and making miniatures for them is something we love to do. Sometimes these little miniatures can be just as time consuming as making larger versions for ourselves.
For Mothers Day we made them simple flower costumes using recycled cardboard tubes. We used soft pastels, and re-used the daffodils we made for St David’s Day last month.
We set up a small display and you can see the bunting we made from sweet Liberty fabric.
We celebrated St Patrick Day this week with more DIY costumes from recycled card. Our mice turned themselves into little shamrocks for the day.
The teen wanted to recreate the little egg carton sailing boat we made for our Sylvanian families a few year ago. She used the cardboard carton from a box of mini eggs, stitched a flag from Liberty fabric and attached it to a crochet hook!
A few weeks ago I tried making a miniature quilt for the vintage cigar box but it turned out to be too big and thick. So I hand stitched a smaller one and it is much better.
Our final mini make was a set of craft stick shelves. I’ve seen these on Pinterest and made some for us. They couldn’t be a simpler make and finish off the rustic vibe we were aiming for.
We enjoyed making miniatures and can’t wait to make some more!
