Bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. Traditionally, Bargello was stitched in wool on canvas.
Crafting a bargello pin cushion
It’s a craft I wanted to try for a while so I was excited to see it was featured as one of the monthly Hoop Club by Cotton Clara kits. Inside the kit was 6 different coloured tapestry wool bundles, tapestry needle, needlepoint fabric and felt backing.
The instructions were easy to follow and I followed the pattern, counting the tiny squares and bringing my tapestry needle thread through the fabric to create the distinctive stitches.
The colours complemented each other perfectly and the pattern was easy to see as I added each colour.
As well as being easy to follow, it was very calming. Perfect to stitch whilst watching Inventing Anna on Netflix. Such a small project is perfect for trying something new and it was simple to finish off, add backing and fill with stuffing. There was enough materials to make a second pin cushion, perfect to gift to a friend.
