Easy Among Us painted rocks

Easy Among Us painted rocks

Posted on November 22, 2020December 5, 2020 by jenny

The weather has turned so cold that it’s been harder than usual to encourage the children outside. With shorter days it’s more important than ever to get outside at the weekend. I love getting my Vitamin D and love being outside on a sunny day. Thankfully my children can be persuaded to go on a walk with the promise of some geocaching and hiding painted rocks.

This morning we headed to the Oxhey Park Sculpture Trail to hide some of our most recent Among Us painted rocks and look for geocaches.

We used:

Bag of smooth pebbles or rocks

Selection of chalk pens

Varnish to seal the painted rocks (we use Wilko Gloss Yacht Varnish)

Have you played Among Us yet? It’s an online game which takes place in a space-themed setting. Players  take on one of two roles, most being Crewmates, and a predetermined number being Impostors. The goal of the Crewmates is to identify the Impostors, eliminate them, and complete tasks around the map; the Impostors’ goal is to covertly sabotage and kill the Crewmates before they complete all of their tasks.

My kids love playing Among Us and we’ve even played it as a family a few times too! It has been the theme of a lot of our crafting recently. We used our 3D printer to make an Among Us character (the one with a bone sticking out of it) and some Among Us cookie cutters. It also inspired our latest painted rocks.

We already had a stash of smooth rocks so I picked a selection, washed and dried them. Our Posca pens are perfect for drawing on rocks so we all picked our favourite colours and set to work, drawing the characters in pencils and adding colour.

Among Us Crewmates are quite simple so the children enjoyed creating them. We made an Impostor too although our Vent rock didn’t turn out quite so well! I love it when we can bring an online game into real life crafting.

When we had create a handful of Among Us painted rocks we gave them a coat of varnish. You don’t need to varnish painted rocks, but it makes them last longer if you do. Hiding painted rocks is really popular where we live and we love seeing our rocks pop up again and again.

The varnish dried overnight so we were able to take them out and hide them. Hopefully whoever finds them will enjoy them!

I think it’s really great when online games extend into the real world – these rocks look like a lot of fun, a great excuse to get crafty on a dreary day.
