Walking with The Snowman trail, London Bridge City 2019

Walking with The Snowman trail, London Bridge City 2019

Posted on December 31, 2019January 15, 2022 by jenny

We’ve been wanting to get out to explore the latest art trail in London for a while. Did you know there was a Snowman art trail in town this winter?  This year, London’s most picturesque Christmas market, Christmas by the River, has welcomed a festive sculpture trail celebrating Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman.

The Snowman story has been an integral part of our book advent for a few years now. We love the story and have enjoyed the animated version to over the last few weeks. So when I heard there was an art trail dedicated to The Snowman I knew we would make a visit.

Walking with The Snowman trail

The Walking with The Snowman trail is nestled along the south side of The Thames, between London Bridge station and Tower Bridge.  This area is known as London Bridge City, a bustling riverside destination incorporating No.1 London Bridge, Cottons Centre, Hay’s Galleria and More London. We love this area as there is so much to see and do all year round.

There are 12 statues, each illustrated by a different artist. You can download a map to your phone or pick up a printed guide when you’re in the area. As well as the sculpture trail you can also visit Christmas by the River, a Christmas market consisting of over 70 festive stalls.

The Snowman sculptures were created by Wild in Art in collaboration with Penguin Random House, and are decorated according to the song ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. The children loved running around to find them and we met a lot of other families following the sculpture trail too.

It took us about an hour to find all of The Snowman statues. The Walking with The Snowman trail is recommended if you are looking for something do over the Christmas holidays. This is a great part of London to explore with children.

I wish I’d been able to get down to see these! My mum sent me loads of pictures of her on the trail though. I did do the Shaun the Sheep one a few years back though, that was great fun.
