Mud and Bloom: a nature and gardening subscription box for kids

The other day I mentioned that I’ve been trying out subscription boxes for my children. As much as I enjoy crafting at home I also love a subscription box, which does all the hard work for you! Both my children love to make and create so as I bought my daughter the Unicorns & Rainbows box, I sent off for a Mud and Bloom box for my son.

Mud and Bloom: a nature and gardening subscription box for kids

My 8 year old is really creative and loves the garden which is why I picked the Mud and Bloom box. It aims to inspire kids aged between 3 and 8 to connect with the outdoors. Mud & Bloom delivers fun and educational nature and gardening activities through your letter box each month.

We received the June box which was stuffed with activities including Make your own jam jar lantern, Grow your own beetroot, Grow your own calendula, Make your own nature journal, along with a Butterfly search and Nature news for June including plants, animals and insects and birds.

The first thing my son wanted to do was plant his seeds. He enjoys helping in the garden and was excited to grow something from scratch. We found pots, placed the compost pellets in water and then added our seeds. We’ve placed them in a sunny spot on the kitchen window and we’ve already seen they’re beginning to grow.

The next thing he wanted to try was the jam jar lanterns. We raided the recycling box for glass jars and used the acrylic paints included in the box. Both my children did this and we can add citronella candles and use them when we’re eating outside in the garden.

We still have the nature journal to make when we can get out for a walk. Our walk to school is too short but I’m hoping we’ll have some time to go further afield this week.

I found a 10% discount code online so paid £7.16 for my first box. I thought this was good value for the four craft activities. I love my children to be engaged by the outdoors and will probably invest in another to use over the Summer holidays.
