how to make a mud kitchen

Summer fun in the garden {win an Olympus Pen camera}

Posted on May 18, 2017August 30, 2022 by jenny

With my 7 year old facing a week of SATs we’ve been making sure to have some weekends relaxing at home. He keeps mentioning all the test papers they are practicing so I know he is a little anxious about it all. He loves to be creative and use his hands so we have been making things to encourage him outside, give him something to do and totally take his mind off his SATs.

Our favourite building materials are upcycled wooden pallets. They are the best resource – usually free, can be upcycled in so many ways but are strong and sturdy. I can’t quite believe it’s been 2 year since I first wrote about the homemade mud kitchen, using an old pallet. I think every garden should have one. You may remember it’s built around an old wooden pallet and some spare pieces of wood. It came together in a few hours but has been added to ever since. That’s the great thing about building a mud kitchen – they can really grown along with your child.

You can find my original post about how to build a Mud Kitchen here.

We’ve recently used another wooden pallet to build a bug hotel. Creating in the garden seems a natural extension to how we create indoors during the colder months. We would all much rather be outside and I’m wondering what we could make next for our garden.

I love to see what other families get up to in their garden during the warmer months so I created a Photobox using million eyez. You can create and use community-driven photo collections to illustrate your blog posts. The best thing is that you can add your own pics to my Photobox. I love to see what everyone else is getting up to so if you have any Summer fun photos you’d love to share then please add them to my Photobox.

Win an Olympus PEN Camera with million eyez

I wanted to share a fantastic competition but please note you must have a blog to take part. million eyez are offering an Olympus PEN Camera to bloggers who take part (I have one and love it).

million eyez brings bloggers and photographers together from around the world, to create Photoboxes on a theme. You can create your own Photobox, or embed someone else’s, and ask friends to contribute too. It’s a brilliant way to add high quality photos to your blog if you find yourself writing a post about something and needing a little extra visual input.

    This is the first summer our grandchildren will be living close enough that they can hang out with us in the garden. I literally can’t wait to make fun projects like the the palate with the colorful containers or bug hotel. Thank-you for the ideas and also the giveaway. I entered and really hope I win .. what a wonderful camera!

    Getting a bit creative and messy really helps unwind and destress. We’re experiencing anxiety with my eldest at the moment, it’s really hard. But we started making lavender sachets (lavender can have a calming effect). So we’re making something handy but the sewing is therapeutic from us both. GREAT photo box, loved it x x x
