You may be surprised to hear that the patchwork part of my Union flag quilt is nearly finished. I know I said I was going to put it aside this month to concentrate on some other sewing projects but I really enjoy working on it. I ran out of hexagons so have been making a few each evening and trying to think about how I want to finish it off.
I ordered the backing fabric from Elephant in my Handbag which is actually a Nautical Pink Pirate Bundle by Dear Stella. The fabrics feature small anchors, Jolly Rogers and a fun pinstripe. My 3 year old is obsessed with Pirates and as this quilt is for her I thought she would really like these fabrics.
I’ve been picking fabrics and putting together a quilt top for the UK mini quilt swap. We had to pick something from an inspiration board which meant much Pinterest surfing which always makes me happy. I found a sweet quilt I knew I could make and have made a start with the top. Again, I found the perfect backing fabric from Elephant in my Handbag, a really lovely Spot On Red on White by Robert Kaufman.
I’ve been reading my sewing books for some inspiration for the Very Berry ATC swap 6: Home Sweet Home. This is the third time I’ve taken part and I really love working on these miniature pieces of art. I think my ATC will have a nautical theme, inspired by my favourite craft book, Hearty Good Wishes. The deadline is zooming so I’m hoping to have some sewing time over the Easter hols – might be wishful thinking though!

Wow, the Union flag quilt is just stunning. Your little pirate might even find a boat to fly it from, my son used to use an upturned table although I guess the quilt might be rather big for this (but it’s still good to see the proper name used!). All of your makes are stunning, I’m going to be a regular visitor xx
