Screen printing at home with Screen Sensation

You know that I love to try new crafts. Recently I tried making my own candles and now screen printing. I admit that screen printing at home always sounded scary but I loved the idea of printing my own tea towels or t-shirts, just never knew where to start. Thankfully Screen Sensation came to my rescue by providing me with their own Screen Sensation system to try screen printing at home!

The Screen Sensation kit consists of a base unit, frame, small and large squeegee, stir sticks, and a collapsible ink bowl. You can choose from their wide variety of screens which come in two sizes (12×12 and 7×5).

The idea is simple, simply affix a screen to your frame with ScreenSensation fixing tape (which is specially formulated to be safe on the emulsion layer) and make a print. Screen Sensation also make their own inks which are water based, drain safe, and wash out in cold water. The great thing about the inks is that once the ink is fully cured onto a solid surface or heat set into fabric, it becomes permanent.

I was excited to try out screen printing at home! alongside the kit I received a Kaleidoscope Screen of a repeating butterfly pattern and was able to choose a few extras to use, along with some different inks and a guide on how to set everything up. I admit to being slightly nervous but I really didn’t need to be. I followed the instructions, taping the screen to the frame, placing paper into the base unit, applying the ink and carefully squeezing it over the frame.

I did a few practice runs onto a sheet of paper and was really blown away with the results! I quickly learned a few tips, such as making sure your screen was held down tightly with the tape, and pressing down evenly with the squeegee. Any spills were easy to wipe up with a wet wipe and the frame could easily be re-positioned thanks to the fixing tape.

The Screen Sensation Kit is ideal for making items at home. You can make your own cards, invitations, or even print onto fabric. I made a t-shirt for my daughter, a bag for my husband and tried to print a tea-towel too. I learned a lot at my first attempt (such as you can’t fold fabric, everything needs to be flat!) so I’m looking forward to using it again soon.

It’s a lovely way to make handmade gifts at home, or personalise things for a birthday party. It also makes screen printing at home really easy as everything you need is in the kit. You can buy extra inks and screens but this is a great way to explore screen printing and I’m so excited to try making other things.

The Screen Sensation 12 x 12 kit is available on the Crafting.co.uk site for £89.99, where you’ll also find loads of helpful information and tips.

  1. I really love this butterfly print, it’s great how versatilie you can use the print for. I didn’t realise how easy it is to use a screen print. I thought it would be much harder to transfer the print.

  2. Screen printing is so much fun! I did it some years ago as an activity at the school. The result was great!
