Cork print dandelion craft for kids

Cork print dandelion craft for kids

Posted on May 4, 2018 by jenny

Now that Spring has decided to stick around for more than a day I wanted to share our cork print dandelion craft for kids. I’m the first to admit I just don’t have green fingers, I can’t even help my children grow sunflowers. We were pretty excited to see the Miffy tulip bulbs we planted coming up again, but apart from that we just enjoy the pretty weeds.

Equipment used: black paper, corks, white and green paint

How to make a cork print dandelion craft

Corks are such a great tool for crafting with. They are easy to grab hold of and take a lot of paint. First of all we talked about dandelions and had a look in the garden for them. Dandelions are instantly recognisable by their bright yellow flowers and ‘clock’ seedheads. They have many herbal uses and are a good source of nectar and pollen for insects. However they are quite hard to get rid of due to their long roots, which is why they are despised by gardeners who want a pristine lawn.

I remember constantly picking dandelion clocks when I was a child. Who didn’t love to blow the seeds heads and watch them fly away! I’m sure there were some songs we sang but I can’t remember any of the words to tell my own children now. Anyway, I poured some white paint on to a tray and my children used the corks to dip into the paint. We used black paper so the white paint would show up really well. They created their own dandelion heads using the corks. I left them to it to see what they would create.

They both craft in totally different ways and it was fun to watch them. My son created a neat circle with his cork whilst my 6 year old just loved squidging the paint with hers!

They added stems with green paint and we left them to dry. To finish them off we cut around the dandelion head and hung them in the window.

I love hanging up the children’s art and our cork print dandelions make a pretty Spring craft activity for kids.

Looks like your daughter was engrossed in this activity. The end result is very effective too and easy to make with kids

I haven’t seen any corks for ages but they are so useful fro crafting. I like the idea of putting the finished flowers on the windows, very nice. Mich x
