Power, wealth, sex (Dallas box set review)

Power, wealth, sex … and glorious extravagance. They all find a home in the sprawling saga of the Ewing clan in Dallas. At 357 episodes, Dallas remains one of the longest lasting prime time dramas in American TV history. I was hooked when I was younger but I was a bit gutted to google and find it ran from 1978 to 1991 (i.e. a very long time ago!). The good news is that it’s being brought back for a new series starring some of the original characters and new ones too, I’ve seen the adverts and can’t wait to catch up with JR and Sue Ellen.

Warner Bros. kindly sent me Season 1 & 2 box set to watch and I’ve been enjoying watching an episode when the children have gone to bed. I’m pleased to say the series is as entertaining as I remember and I’m especially enjoying the 80s fashions!

Dallas

At the heart of Dallas is the Ewing family, a wealthy oil and cattle dynasty embroiled in a fierce battle for power, love and the Southfork ranch. Over the years, the explosive rivalry between brothers JR (Larry Hagman) and Bobby (Patrick Duffy) Ewing, has seen the characters push each other to the edge mentally, physically and financially. With the family fortune in their hands, the Ewing brothers take deception and ambition to a new level in their fight for supremacy.

Follow their journey right from the start with Dallas: The Complete DVD Collection available on DVD from 3rd September, and look out for the new series of Dallas which hits UK TV screens tonight at 9 p.m. on C5.

I’m loving the new series! Perhaps I should reacquaint myself with the original.
