Swimming with a toddler

I’ve taken Edward swimming once a week at our local pool since he was little which he really enjoys. The lessons are quite structured (sometimes too structured) but I’m just happy that he loves the water and is happy and confident in it. He dislikes putting his head under water or using armbands so we just concentrate on having lots of fun!

We’ve always used Huggies Little Swimmers underneath his swim shorts and they’ve been brilliant and never let us down. I remember when we had just started swimming when one little boys swim nappy didn’t contain a rather runny poo which ended up all over him, his poor mum and the floor of the changing room! Thankfully we’ve never had an accident. We always remember to pack a few whenever we go away so daddy has been able to take him swimming when we visit grandad, or stay in a hotel with a pool like last weekend.

Lisa Scott Lee, of the newly reformed pop band Steps, recently fronted the Huggies Little Swimmers campaign for National Baby Swim Week which took place in June this year. Lisa, 34, has two children – Jayden aged 3 and Star-Lily aged 18 months, regularly goes swimming with them and has done since they were just a few months old. Lisa attributes getting back into shape to swimming with her babies and waxes lyrical about the benefits of baby swimming, including aiding them to establish better eating and sleeping patterns.

I was allowed to ask Lisa a question so asked “is there anything your children don’t like about swimming?” Her answer, “As they go so frequently they really enjoy the time we spend in the water and the games we play.” Lucky lady!

Take a look at the Little Swimmers website for more tips about taking your baby or toddler swimming, as well as a really handy money off coupon.
