Every parent had heard and read The Very Hungry Caterpillar books with their children. It was one of the first books we bought when we knew we were expecting and Edward loves the story.
Portmeirion have produced a range inspired by the children’s classic, the range includes both child friendly ceramics and adorable keepsakes. We were sent a melamine three piece set, consisting of plate, bowl and cup, to try. Each item features some of the colourful illustrations of Eric Carle.
Edward has his own set of plates and bowls so I wasn’t worried about his using this set. After a quick wash they were ready to use and I served Edward’s sandwich on the plate at lunchtime and his dinner in the bowl. They made mealtimes fun and colourful and gave him something to look at whilst he ate. All items are dishwasher safe but cannot be used in the microwave.
Unfortunately Edward dropped the plate on only the third day we had the set and it smashed on the floor! This is despite the website claiming “And no worries if the mug, plate or bowl gets thrown off the table or high chair – The Very Hungry Caterpillar melamine set is very strong.” We have to disagree with this statement!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar three piece set retails at £11.00 and is a lovely gift for The Very Hungry Caterpillar fans. Just be careful your little one doesn’t throw it off the table 🙂
