End of the moses basket?

When I was pregnant and read current government advice that babies should sleep in your room until they are at least six months old I didn’t think we would manage this. We thought the baby would be too noisy or would wake too frequently and we would put the baby in it’s own room fairly quickly. At home he sleeps in his cot from 7 until 11 when we wake him up for a dream feed and put him to bed in his moses basket in our room. This has been our routine since he was 2 weeks old and works really well for us.

Fast forward a couple of months and we’re on holiday at my mums’ house. Edward is now 24 weeks and we had to make a decision about where he would sleep. Our room on holiday is too small for the travel cot so the only option was to put him in the bedroom next to us. Last night was our first night away and it was strange not having him near me. He didn’t mind at all but I had a sleepless night, listening out for any noise on the baby monitor, hoping he missed me! I woke before 7 and rushed in to see him but he was happily spread out on his back and snoring. He slept an hour longer than usual too (he probably doesn’t appreciate being woken by daddy getting up for work).

To be honest he’s far too big for his moses basket. Lately we’ve all lain awake listening to him scratching the insides of his moses basket while he settles down. The poor lad has no room to move but I’m finding it difficult to let go. However, I think this holiday will mark the end of the moses basket and when we get home it will go in the loft, letting him enjoy his own room all night long.

His nursery is on a different floor to our bedroom so no more sneaky cuddles in bed in the morning!

I totally understand how you are feeling I was the same. Also Baba’s room was on a different level to ours, we moved in the end next door. However when we first put him in his room I still slept on the sofa bed for a week I know neurotic I know, I couldn’t not I was so worried about him on his own. Now I love the fact that we are separated 18months later and it does become easier. The next hurdle is getting rid of the monitor I found that really hard, I wish you luck with it all xx
