YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits review

YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits review

Posted on April 9, 2017February 26, 2025 by jenny

Do your children love anything YO-KAI WATCH? In case you haven’t heard it’s a role-playing video game which has branched into more games, manga, anime, music and merchandise. The games are based around a male or female character and in it you explore Springdale, meet new and familiar Yo-Kai and all the curious occurrences.

My children love their Nintendo and were excited to receive a copy of the sequel to the hugely popular Yo-Kai Watch – YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits to play. I’m a huge fan of the Nintendo 3DS which we have. It’s small and compact and its perfectly in my handbag for weekends away!

Anyway, we downloaded YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits and my son was quite happy to sit down and play. There’s also YO-KAI WATCH 2: Fleshy Souls which is now available on Nintendo 3DS family system too.

Here’s the official blurb:

In the YO-KAI WATCH series, there are mysterious forces behind common problems: from always feeling hungry to spending too much money or accidentally revealing your crush during class, there’s very likely to be a mischievous Yo-kai to be found. Yo-kai are charming, funny, outrageous characters that can be found everywhere, living secretly right beside us, and with a habit of causing a lot of weird problems for people – often with hilarious results. By battling them, and with a little understanding and the right food, players can befriend these mischievous Yo-kai – both old and new – as they take part in an epic adventure.

The gameplay that fans loved in the original YO-KAI WATCH® game returns in the sequel, as players take control of Nate or Katie and explore Springdale and its surroundings to investigate a series of curious occurrences, This time though, the stakes are higher, as a pair of sinister Yo-kai are determined to steal the Yo-kai Watch and bring havoc to the town and its residents. As Nate or Katie, the player must uncover this nefarious plot, and even travel back 60 years into the past to do so – exploring a past version of Springdale, and being entrusted with the original Yo-kai Watch.

This time around, there’s a schism in the Yo-kai World, and players will join either the Bony or the Fleshy army, depending on which version of YO-KAI WATCH® 2 they choose, and players can participate in the Bony Spirits/Fleshy Souls rivalry by winning online battles and earning points to help their chosen side emerge victorious. Each of the two versions includes five exclusive and unique Yo-kai which can be traded locally and online.

Both my 7 year old son and husband spent a considerable amount of time sitting in the shade playing it this weekend. They love bonding over new games and they had a ton of fun playing it. There’s quite a lot of text to read which my son always skips over, I think that’s why he likes to let his Dad do all the reading for him! My son loved the tasks, especially the bug catching one, and we thought it makes really good use of the 3D.

You can follow YO-KAI WATCH on Facebook and Twitter.

If you love YO-KAI WATCH then you’ll probably love the YKW Wibble Wobble app. It’s a completely FREE download and you can find it on Google Play and the App Store.
